Yep, what I said. Don't disagree.

Well if you go with a provider that gives away "free" modems to everyone then the plan fees are going to be dearer than if they didn't aren't they? Sounds like you fell for the oldest trick in the book! Surprised you didn't go with Telstra and jump on the T-Box bandwagon.

Not sure what that has to do with anything. Loopyloo went with Exetel and hence isn't restricted to "free" hardware just so he can use the phone service.

    Irrelevant.

    Thanks for clarifying my point.

you should NOT have to go out and purchase additional hardware to make the connection for the phone and computer to the NTD or any other method when your paying an access fee in my view.
Having installed over 200 fibre and fixed wireless connections, from my experience that when you interact with a customer and explain things, they will almost never ever choose a provider modem.

I know this is an old thread but I thought I'd add a little info that might help someone else.

All info on the net about using my old Thomson TG782T as only a wireless router to extend access coverage says it can't be done because Telstra has it locked.
Well today I found this website that describes how to do it....forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1598834

The only other hardware required is an ethernet cable long enough to reach from the primary modem/router to the Thomson.
I have now set mine up and it works well.

Personally I'd be avoiding Exetel at this point. They seem to be on another of their "let's randomly terminate accounts" sprees. Exetel has been saying they are only terminating the accounts of people that are high downloaders, but if posts on Whirlpool can be believed (yeah, it's a stretch I know) even light users are getting the chop. There have been plenty of reports from people using less than half their quota getting the chop. Then there's the issue of amazingly poor speeds during peak times.
LOL , good to see Exehell are still offering great service to there customers , i left them years ago and have not looked back for the very same reasons.
