Here we go again. My car had been repaired, had to pay the $800.00 excess(for the time being)
But now I picked it up last monday,on tuesday after about 20 mins driving the warning came on"Check your oil"
I panicked and put 2 ltrs of oil in but 20 mns later the warning came back on.
I checked the oil and it was full.
Once the warning comes on the engine starts to "rattle"
The mechanic said a new engine,$recon $3500 installed.
Funny is it runs perfect untill it reaches temp.
Any clues?
Thanks

Given that you paid an excess, I'm guessing that the vehicle has been in an accident. Where was the original damage? zzzzz may well be on the money. If the pickup or pump is stuffed a simple pressure test should prove that. I'd possibly perform a complete oil and filter change which should prove the filter.
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...

The damage was at the rear tailgate.
take the oil filter off and take it apart and look for metal.
Oil pressure sensor/sender. Probably located on the left of the engine.
The fact that there's a highway to hell and a stairway to heaven says a lot about the anticipated traffic flow.

while I am unfamiliar with the Commodore I believe the GM ls series engines have a screen under the oil pressure sender that will block the main oil gallery and cause the problems you describe if the screen becomes blocked.
this screen is accessed by removing the oil pressure sender then removing the screen.
If its the 3.6 alloytec it will be all the built up carbon blocking/restricting the oil pickup screen (common issue) afraid its a sump off job . Doesn't need a new engine though .
