While it may or may not be an upgrade or installation error, it certainly is an error in judgement by MS to default to sharing passwords, even if they are only your Wifi network passwords.
Default should be not to share with friends.

At least people who read this thread now know to check & turn off password sharing for their own security after the upgrade/installation process has finished.

Yes Wi-Fi Sense is turned on in Windows 10 if you chose "Express Settings" during installation process. IMO Wi-Fi Sense isn't that bad either, should not be damned at all. You must not be mortally afraid of Wi-Fi Sense.

By default, Wi-Fi Sense will not share Wi-Fi passwords with anyone else: For every network you join, you'll be asked if you want to share it with your friends/social networks. So if Wi-Fi Sense is fully enabled, it shares most of your Wi-Fi access passwords with all of your Outlook.com, Skype, and Facebook contacts.

Again: Wi-Fi Sense doesn't actually do anything until two things occur:
    1. First, you need to sign in Windows 10 with a Microsoft account. Wi-Fi Sense won't work with a local account.
    2. Whenever you connect to a new Wi-Fi network, it asks if you want to share it with other people.

Microsoft says that Wi-Fi Sense only shares your passwords with direct friends/contacts, and not friends-of-friends. So, for example, if Adam shares a passkey with Eve via Wi-Fi Sense, Eve cannot then use Wi-Fi Sense to share Adam's passkey with her sons Cain or Abel.

My resume: As with many things in life, you have to choose between convenience and absolute security. For most users, the added convenience of Wi-Fi Sense will probably win out.

    EDIT:

    Perhaps it's worthwhile to too.

Hi all tried to upgrade to 10 today and failed came back as error code C1900101 3 hours to download and now it wants to do it again!
I found the download in the win temp file but can't figure how to start the upgrade again. Have uninstalled all the tuneup tools and such to try again. Any help would be most grateful. Got two win 7 machines to do. Bloody computers and slow internet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fred, use the media creation tool to download and create an iso which can be burned to DVD. You can then use the DVD to upgrade/clean install as many times as you like.

Thanks Hoe am downloading the upgrade again and will see what happens. If I use the creation tool and burn the iso file to dvd can I just upgrade a win 7 machine or does it do a clean install?

What else do I need to uninstall on the 7 machines like nortons malwarebytes etc before upgrade. I downloaded media creation tool and it want's to download the iso which is ok except the bloody update is 40%. Will I use the tool if this fails and see what happens?

Thanks for you help guys I want let it beat me.

Sorry Hoe you answered my question for the upgrade.

Will download the iso file after this one fails!!!

At least I will have a dvd to upgrade in the future...

Fred, with the ISO you create you can run setup from within Win7 to do the upgrade, make sure your running Win7 Sp1 and not just Win7. Once you've done the upgrade, and Win10 has been activated, you can then do a clean install on that machine anytime, and you can just skip entering a product key as your machine's activation will be saved on MS's servers.

Yeah but Windows 10 supports DirectX 9 and up GPU's, so wouldn't have thought that would be stopping an install (just might have to do a manual driver update using 8.1 Drivers after the install), I'm still running an old GTX 250 and had no issues when upgrading.

One of my PC's with an old nvidea card wont upgrade via the upgrade tool due to no drivers being available. Haven't tried upgrading via DVD yet.....

It should not be construed as rudeness: The requested answer in any case would be irrelevant in view of this thread's subject.

Hi Fred, there is a detailed troubleshooting page at MS.

Find your error code & follow the advice.

The above link will be helpful for many I think.

I uninstalled it and went back to my old OS after having issues with it.

Fire Fox was fine, no issues setting it as my preferred browser.

Kaspersky failed to work, needed to reinstall it then it worked.

Some supplier operated software catalogs was not windows 10 compatible.

Went back to the old OS and everything but kaspersky is fine, now trying to work out how to get kaspersky working again, its not playing ball with me, might shoot off a email to their tech department.
