I thought I might resurrect an interesting thread.
My great, great, great grandfather John Candy, a stone mason , assisted with laying the first stones on the first brick version of Melbourne's Princes Bridge (below) which was built 1846-1851. This bridge was dismantled and the stone reused on the current Princes Bridge which was built in 1888. John Candy also built a two story hotel in "Four Posts" (now Glenorchy, Victoria) in 1854, the "Kingungwill" homestead in Sheep Hills, Victoria in 1865, and the first brick building in Warracknabeal. He also built some of the first brick buildings in Brighton , Victoria.
