    Default Tools of the trade!

hi all, I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this but I had my work car broken into while working on someone security ironically and a fair few of my tools got knocked off and now I'm in the market for some new tools. My CCTV monitor was pinched and I've been looking around at some on the net and eBay. My old one was just a fairly basic unit with a color bar generator, PTZ control and basic cable tester. I've seen some that claim to be able to be used for analogue, HD-CVI and IP cameras, test POE, ping and a whole bunch of other crap. Has anyone used on of these and are they any good.
Also I had a Makita cordless set with impact driver, drill, rotary hammer a few batteries and charger. I've got to start from scratch. I might go Makita again unless anyone can recommend something else that's good value and good quality

I use the same Makita tools you had for over 4 years now without any troubles. Not sure about other brands.

Yeah I think I will stick with the Makita, has anyone used the brushless stuff and is it worth it? I've never had brushless and my original drill was about 7 years old and going strong.

Use Makita 18 V tools every day
never bother to roll a lead out again
    check Sydney tools
they have some pretty good package deals sometimes with free shipping

EDIT just replaced a finally worn out Makita drill with a brushless one last month
    amazing power!
you should see the handle it comes with, it's a mile long

I've had some Hitachi tools for over twenty years, used and abused. Only replaced the brushes in the power plane about 6 years back. It has also needed new bearings for about 10 years (some to think of it, the plane is nearer to 30!) but still works well. Warning, I've not really used them in a commercial situation, but they have seen hard yards. My angle grinder did get used to sharpen mower blades when I was landscaping for a living, so it did get some hard use over about 10 years. I just replaced a cheap drill with a Makita a couple of years back, though it does not seem as impressive as some of the competing Milwaukee products, in many ways I still prefer the cheapie to to the Mak.
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...

I have been using a makita 18v for ages. Dropped my first one from up a ladder & broke the gearbox. Replaced it with another which gave me 4 batteries & two chargers. I recently used my offsiders Aldi unit & it nearly broke my wrist. The torque leaves the Makita for dead. So recently bought an Aldi one (3 yr warranty) and am looking forward to putting it through its paces. Came with an impact driver as well for $149. Only one battery but I'm looking into how to get another.

I replaced my 10 year old deWalt hammer drill & impact driver with 18V brushless ones last year. There wasn't much point in replacing the batteries on the old ones after a cost/benefit analysis.

I went brushless as they are lighter, which, along with the Li-ion battery, makes them easier to hold.

I purchased from here after looking online, was able to get free shipping as well.

They also had a good price on cordless rotary hammers (non-brushless) at the time, so picked up one of them as well. I save on test/tag now, as I don't take any mains powered tools/instruments/extension cords/chargers onsite anymore.

i was speaking to a friend who's a builder and he uses AEG, 6yr warranty and in the pack at bunnings for 799, you get 5 tools but importantly you get 3 x 5amp/hr batteries and theyre the most expensive bit. All the others give you a measely 1.5, 2.5 or 3amp/hr batteries.
    All brushless

Regards the monitors - give Sedan a call they have a high end analogue that does basic IP functions and a IP camera monitor. Works week with nominated brands - however they all have their limitation as to cameras work with natively as opposed to the ONVIF stream

AEG is AWESOME u can literally feel the quality.

Also, dont fork out on a IP camera tester, just get a laptop. I use a Acer Aspire One AOD270 its a netbook and I get 7+ hrs on the battery.

Yeah I wasn't really sure about spending that much for the IP ones but I wouldn't mind it having the analogue and HD inputs and outputs and the HDMI and VGA inputs would come in handy.

Yeah unfortunately still a lot of analogue out there when you do a fair bit of service. Not everyone wants to upgrade straight away.

here is my 2 cents worth after I have been knocked off twice in 12 months. for tools that you don't use that often I would go the cheaper end of the scale aeg or even Ryobi some of there products would impress some people out there that have had name brands all there life at a third of the cost. I use a good drill every day hitachi I went for brushless and the difference in brushed from the last one to brushless is great people are right in what they say the power and talk are a great improvement. I think personally that Milwaukee are at the peak of there game at the moment I have a mate that bought a kit and have to say that I whish I had that gear not one of the items a can fault. big torque big batterys and feels well built if ya can afford a kit go with one with as many batterys as possible and less tools if that makes sense these days the tools are cheaper than the batterys. as for your monitor I bought one off ebay claiming it had all the bangs and whistles let me tell ya make sure you know what your getting what they do Is advitise the best of the best they all look the same just with different features and model number. mine said it could do more than a swiss army knife little to find that it had half the features the one I seen was poe tester, port flicker, tvi, sdi and analogue, multimeter, tdr, ping ip,power camera from device,rs232+485, and so on. although I am happy with the picture, battery life and price of the unit 150 delivered all it has is Ethernet port for ip camera, ping, analogue camera view, power 12 camera from device,rs232+485. just be careful mate hope this helps and I feel ya pain it sucks replacing tools you already have had.

$150 delivered where did you get that from, I'm probrably not worried about to many bells and whistles. If it's got decent battery, decent picture, PTZ control and 12v out that would do me fine. I'm still trying to get the boss to cough up a little money to help replace the tools as I was at work when it happened, apparently the car was covered for stock being stolen just not tools which he only realised after it happened. Depending on how much or if I get any money will probably end up being the deciding factor to what cordless set up I get.

They were until I realised fraud doesn't look to good on your police record when going for a job haha. I'd love to do that but it's not worth it for a few hundred by the time you pay the excess.
