Default Windows 10 Home - Problems with optical drive MATSHITABD-MLT UJ262

My optical drive is a combination Blu-ray and DVD drive ( it has 2 lenses ). Regardless whether I insert a DVD disk or a BD disk it doesn't play, my optical drive rolls the disk a few time and then, the optical drive pretends as if there is no disk in the drive. Querying the optical drive's properties with right clicking it in Explorer, whether a DVD is inserted or a BD, I always get "Allocated 0 Bytes, Free 0 Bytes, File system Unknown".

Also the famous DVD-ripper software "HandBrake" isn't able to see (and open) the optical drive, whereby yet Explorer shows it.

Device Manager tells me all OK with this drive esp. latest driver is installed ( CDROM.INF by Microsoft - version 10.0.10240.16384, 2006/06/21 ) - have uninstalled and installed the drive several times.

So my assumption is that Windows 10 Home doesn't allow me to rip / play / burn DVDs / BDs.

Have done an intensive Google search for a solution, no luck so far.

Any clues how I can get this optical drive's contents shown / played if a disk is inserted?

    Thanks for your quick reply.

Fixit you linked to doesn't work in Windows 10. A firmware update isn't available, already have checked this.

Added the mentioned key/value pair to registry (because indeed was missing) and rebooted: my problem got not fixed by this action.

Could be a dodgy drive, I can't test on W10 yet as the only machine with a BD drive in it is the one I'm testing to see how long the "automatic" update is going to take. My copy has been "reserved" for over a month now. Have you got a spare drive to test.
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...

    As said:
Driver (99.9%) is the correct one ( IOBit's Driver Booster found no newer driver, interestingly Windows 10 Device Manager doesn't let me install another driver - because already newest driver is installed ), the optical drive is shown in Windows Explorer, but if I put a disk into the drive it whirls away like normal but does nothing.

    Additional info:
The drive flawlessly worked until I upgraded 2 months ago from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10. So I'm pretty sure it has something to do with Windows 10, and not with the drive itself.

    My Resume:
Looks like Windows 10 is killing off optical drives. And I'm not smart enough to sort out the reason why: what a shame!

Thanks to everyone who tried to help.

usually removing the upper and lower filters fixes the problem

when it does not fix it comes back to faulty data cable or the drive

    is the zone set correctly

will a friend put it in their computer to check it for you

i have had no problems with the drives in windows 10

    also found this

In the meanwhile I've experienced: An Audio CD (which I had to hand) could be read and played with PowerDVD and/or Kodi software, but both an DVD-video disk and an BD-video disk can't be read nor played. So it's not a technical drive problem, nor a driver problem. The problem must be one lying in Windows 10 Home. Wrong settings somewhere???

    BTW:

    1. Optical drive is found by Explorer. In Device Manager I don't have a yellow exclamation mark. No Device Manager error code!

    2. UpperFilters and/or LowerFilters key/value pairs aren't present in the registry's HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} subkeys, which relate to CD-ROM.

I just checked my BD/DVD drive on W10 & it reads & plays BD & DVD with no issue on Power DVD other than Power DVD plays havoc with my sound codecs & have to do a system restore to fix them after using it, however that happened in W8.1 as well. Might upgrade the program & see if its any better.

Current driver listed is as follows,
