This Javascript based online tool allows you to find out best settings for your BitTorrent client software.
Although designed for Azureus, this calculator will work for all BitTorrent client softwares.
Note:
The most important setting in a BitTorrent client program is to cap upload to 80% of your overall upload capacity. Setting upload in your BitTorrent client software is a fine line. The more upload you give, the more download you will get from other peers. However, if upload is set too high, or to unlimited, then download speeds will suffer as outgoing communications (acknowledgment signals, resend requests etc) will be interfered with.
Some, if not most ISPs will show inaccurate results on the Speed Test because the Speed Test involves relatively small files. So if you get 200 kiloBits/s for upload at the Speed Test, you should enter 120 in the kiloBits/s box in the calculator ( => 60%). On my machine Speed Test reported for upload 528 kiloBits/s, so I've entered 316 in the kiloBits/s box in the calculator.
