Question Disable Autoplay Videos: Is there a way to stop these on websites using HMTL5 coding

Does anyone have a solution to disable those ever increasing annoying websites that have autoplay videos.

There are also those adds that popup in corners, or popup behind tabs.

I understand that websites need to have some advertising to bring in income, but it’s getting ridiculous, intrusive, loud, and so in-your-face in an increasing way.

I’ve searched and searched and there doesn’t seem to be any clear answers using any of the main browsers (IE, FF, Chrome…).

It appears that more and more websites are using the new HTML5 coding, where previous add-ons and disabling software that used to work, now fail to block/stop under HMTL5.

Some may stop the autoplay videos from playing, but they fail to stop the buffering that is occurring in the background without your knowledge.

Too bad for those on limited downloads. Bandwidth eaten up in no time just for these in-your-face and unwanted videos.

    For Firefox......

Seems to block Flash and HTML5

Go into Add-ons and search for Flash Control. Install it and see how you go.

Thanks mickstv. I "was" an IE user and found that nothing could block the autoplay videos from playing with IE11.

I've now installed Firefox and Flash Control add-on, and it does seem to work.

It also seems to work on those embedded videos that activate when you roll-over with the mouse. Will see how this will pan out.

The only thing I can find in 'Add Ons' is 'Shock Wave Flash', I am just trying to find which version of Firefox I am using (O/S is WIN10).
I generally keep the volume set very low and it was only the other day after playing something that while I was surfing that I heard 'Voices/Music' and wondered where the hell it was coming from before I realised it was from a 'Pop Up' playing away and it made me wonder just how many times this has occured and I havent been a ware of it??
Being on Wireless I have limited Data and I certainly dont want to waste it on this sort of rubbish.

using Firefox, if you open the link below you can add the add-on.

You'll see a green box with + Add to Firefox

well, I dont have Flash Control listed in the Add Ons but I do have a letter 'F' next to the 3 bars of the 'Menu' Icon on the top Right corner and if I put the cursor over it, it reads, 'Flash Control'
It goes GREEN for allowed and RED for blocked, interesting indeed.

It may have already been there but I didnt know what it was or did
As I opened the Yahoo Homepage that I use, sitting there over an ad is now grey coloured screen with a 'Play Button' in the middle and the words Youtube on the bottom right of the 'screen'.

BTW once an add-on is installed it doesn't show up Get Add-ons tab. Installed add-ons show up under the Extensions tab. Both tabs can be found on the left had side of the Add-ons Manager page.

Also Flash Control isn't something that just turns up in Firefox, the User being you has to install it.

If the Yahoo Homepage wasn't like it is now, that means it wasn't installed before.

Thats Wot I got alright, pretty 'f' icon in the corner and it is happily blocking everything in sight which I wasnt aware they existed before.
I simply cant remember if it was there before but I tend to think it wasnt by the way its functioning now.
Now what we need is an ad blocker on those videos when you run them, this is why I always have the Volume turned down so I dont get besieged by the sponsors ads.

Thanks mickstv for that, very appreciated.

Hi Gordon your could try Adguard Adblocker in Firefox add-ons.

Once you install it via Firefox add-ons another screen will pop up with some options. You want to activate the top three as can be seen in picture two and three.

I grabbed this quote from the Adguard website, they say it blocks Youtube ads.

The thing is maybe a few user here need to install Flash Control and Adguard and see what happens, then report back and tell us if they have seen any ads on the start of Youtube's.
I haven't seen any ads recently, but I might just be lucky.

    What Adguard AdBlocker does

    — Blocks all ads including video ads (including Youtube video ads), rich media advertising like video ads, interstitial ads and floating ads, unwanted pop-ups, banners and text ads (including Facebook advertisements).

    — Speeds up page loading and saves bandwidth, thanks to the missing ads and pop up windows.

    — Blocks many spyware, adware and dialer installers (optional).

    — Protects your privacy by blocking common third-party tracking systems (optional).

    — Protects you from malware and phishing (optional).

haven't seen any ads since I installed AdBlockerPlus on Firefox
there seem to be quite a few around for different browsers if you just Google 'Skip Ads'
