Maybe it's time to step into the 21st century and leave the past behind, linux/open source is this century computing technology, not bloatware.
How many places in this shite program do you need to tell it not to nod off.
I know it is boring shite but when it gets bored with itself and nods off I am ready to get violent.
It is not power related as it is set to auto start on power up and this works every time.
Settings.
Go to sleep NEVER
Turn screen off NEVER
Advanced Power Settings SHOW all set to never.
Stupid shite nods off. Event Logs show it pisses of for a beer.
This is a new install and it is causing major grief.
This computer runs a simple program 24/7 with no keyboard or mouse connected.
We have this same program running on earlier versions of Windows and have no problems.
One on the same location is on XP and been running for 7 years. Others on Win7 with no problems.
It is not our program at fault as the logs show it is going to sleep.

When I was running W8.1, had no problems keeping it awake to use it as a duke box with WMP.
Now doing same with W10, never goes to sleep unless I say so.
Problem I have is W10 (same occurred with W8.1) waking up when I want it to sleep/hybernate/shutdown.
Have you checked thru your BIOS settings to see if there is an overriding sleep function that can be adjusted in there?

When are you heading back to tassie spook ? I notice you havent posted from their since joining the site.
I agree with Tiny, I didnt have any issues with it like that when I used it.
I continue to use Windows 8.1 Update 1 on two computers, a Dell Optiplex 960 (desktop) and a Dell Notebook.
I do not experience any problems with either machine going to sleep, inopportunely or otherwise.
My experience with Windows 10 on another Dell machine is a also a very happy one.
Maybe a hardware related issue.
Did you install the system drivers for the mother board that are compatible with Win 8.1 ?
Other than that why not install Win7 or XP if they work fine.
I have yet to discover a reason why I should use Win8/10 but I guess that is just me with my weird software requirements
that don't like the "modern" resource hungry OS's.
BTW I use a Raspberry PI for simple 24/7 applications because I like the small energy footprint (2-3W).
The PI version 2 can run Windows 10 core. Maybe your simple application can run on that. Just an idea

Given that he has had no problems for 7 years and this problem is on a fresh install, why would he want to move to a completely different operating system ?
I am sure people grow tired of the pro linux comments when they post what is basically a simple windows problem. Linux isnt the be all and end all of everything. (you at least offered some advice on the windows issue nomeat)
I would also be looking at hardware drivers given no other problems with other installs. I am presuming that the hardware is different on this one to the others that have had no problems ?
I'd second tiny's suggestion, may be a bios thing.
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...

It should be running on it's own dedicated micro as per the other system we use.
This manufacturer cannot get it through his thick skull that using PC Systems is stupid and not cost effective.
The newer version with much more features will run on Linux and Apple also. Bloody pointless.
Since my last attach of the machine on Friday, the phone has been quiet.
Maybe I have found the last of the settings.
If you go into Power Settings and set to never, they are overridden by Advanced Settings.
Go to Advanced Settings and a drop down box appears.
Expand each one in turn and check.
Despite never sleep, there was a Hibernate after 180 minutes. I checked and these options are not in Win 7 or earlier.
WINDOWS Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
