I use Symantec Ghost for all cloning of hard drives.

It is easy to use and does the job well, so why would one change?

    Hi there smegs,

Most of the SSD manufacturers have their own cloning tools. It may be a good idea to check that out.

    Cheers,

    Hi.

Why not try Paragon? It has been around for a while, and it is fully compatible with Win 8.1

Slightly off topic, but I tried to clone a 500gb laptop hard drive to another 500gb drive and instead of getting an identical copy, I ended up with a 160gb partition together with a hidden partition for the rest. Is there software which will enable me to reformat the drive to its original 500gb ??
    Thanks.

    Yes, the software mentioned above.

I also use Partition Magic and Acronis True Image.

I use a clone dock like ASTONE, does 2.5 & 3.5" HDD. pretty simple to use. target drive needs to be equal or greater in size than the source. think I only paid $40. The only annoyance s when I clone a drive and it has multiple partitions like hidden recovery partitions, if going to a larger drive I usually end up having to move the last partition so I can extend the main partition.

I use Paragon, have for years - has never let me down.
The added bonus is you can image a 128 to 500 and the reverse as well, image a 500 and put it on a 128
In hindsight I should have posted my Facebook status as: "I've blown the head gasket on my 1997 XR3i" rather than "I've just buggered a 14 year old escort".
The police still haven't seen the funny side, my lap top's been confiscated and the wife has gone off to her mum's.

Thanks for all your help, have managed to sort it using Lazersoft Disk Image, restored disk to full capacity and then used Acronis to clone.
    Cheers.
