    Default 3G/4G ability

Well, i really can not explain this, but the Redmi Note 4 gives me on average 5-6Mb/s faster internet connection than my old Daily Driver (Samsung S3) on 3G
I just did 4 tests, side by side at the same location and the results were consistent every time.

Optus 3G on the Redmi Note 4

Probably the newer chipsets and 3G circuitry i guess.
I have never noticed this speed change when swapping my SIM between other devices i have
    (iPhones, Samsung S3 and S4)

The Redmi Note 4 also handles WiFi connection speeds well too
    (perhaps the same combined chipset??)

Or perhaps it was the Samsung S3 showing its age.

Have compared my Note 4-4G to mates HTC M7 and the Note 4 is far more responsive using home WiFi and our same mobile connection.

As you say newer chipsets and circuitry and competition showing its age.

Yes, i have been using the Note 4 on Wifi since i got it, very fast connection and transfer rates.
It has also been the Fastest handset i've used to recognise and register my SIM card on the Provider Network.
It actually logged me on as a 4G connection at first even though i am restricted to 3G on my contract, but very soon after the sign in process, i was dropped back to 3G H+
I thought i was on a good thing for a sec

Default Negatives about the Redmi Nore 4

No Hotspot button on the pull down menu
No "Allowed List" using MAC addressing to control whom is tethered to your phone (stupid)
No separate logo on task bar to show Tethering is ON.... it just shows the WiFi logo, which is exactly the same as when you are using WiFi???
You also can not rename connected devices to a Simple name like "Andrews Tablet" etc

Strange Messaging Service does not allow you to add text to MMS when you have selected the picture first.

Phone will disconnect USB connection if charging rates drop below 200mA (stupid once again)
A 2Amp charger will only offer 800mA-1100mA charge to phone.

    Finally found a good cover...

Shockproof Case Soft Bumper Cover Phone Protector

    eBay item number:262987694089

Complete rounded corners(No gaps) and does not show fingerprints like its replacement. Less slippery as well. :-)

Not sure what tips you need for a phone like this?
No amount of Tips or Tweaking or ROMs can fix its short comings.

It has a Camera worse than a 5 year old Samsung S3.
That is a deal breaker for most people
But the third world seems to love it, because it is all they can afford.

Also, it can not be charged by USB outlets with a 500mA rating (a lot of Laptops and Routers)
It will disconnect charging and just run flat whilst connected.....

I tend to disagree and find it a good value phone and that is after having two HTC phones. It stacks up well in all regards.

I am finding its camera more than acceptable. More so after following a tip I spotted the other day. BUGGER! I cannot remember what it was but will post back when I find it. (My memory cells that is)

No problem at all charging off a 500mA rated USB port.

Can you pls do a test for me

    1. Connect via USB to Laptop or Router with a 500mA port.
    2. Activate USB Tethering
    3. Does it keep the USB charging active after 10minutes?

I do have to disagree about the Camera though (and so does the Internet)
Take a Landscape photo with the RN4 then zoom into some detail in the distance, it's a blurry mess.
It does seem better if you are taking a very close up shot of some detail that is very well lit, (eg: a circuit board under well lit conditions)
But if you are outdoors and take a typical landscape type photo, the zoomed in detail is very blurry.

In my findings, more blurry than my 5 year old Samsung S3.
An example of fantastic detail in these situations, is Admin's old Samsung Note 5, that thing blows me away.
And from what i read, the new S8 and Huawie Mate 9 are even better.

Have never tethered any of my phones but regularly recharge them using the laptop. Shall try tonight.

I was going to look at some phone shots I took in Bali and then realised they were before I bought the Note 4 and was using the HTC M8 Most of the photos taken with the Note 4 so far are food shots and general happy snaps. A couple give a good indication on the Depth of Field it seems to have but not good enough to post here. (Embarrased)

I charged my RN4 from my laptop (SIM card out, tethering on), got around 220-250mA of charge, above the phones operating current
Did the same in my Router's 500mA USB port, got the same results as above.

    Now.....
Insert the SIM card, connected to 3G

Plug into Router with tethering active, i get a charge rate of 10mA-220mA.
Screen on it hovers around 20mA, 40mA to 110mA range, screen off obviously better.

I suspect, when the charge rate is less the phones usage rate, it drops the charging operation

Not much help, if you like to leave your phone USB tethered to your router for days at a time

Lei Jun reminds me of Steve Jobs here,

For a fella how is reaching for the sky, still has NO Australia region in his International ROMs
Kinda says a lot about which market the 23million phones is targeted at
    The povo market

But, you can only blame Samsung, Apple and other Flagship phones companies and their high pricing for leaving him such an obvious space in the market

Probably need to manually input SMS messaging centre number in the Xiaomi.
Generally under messaging/settings/advanced in Android phones.
That's one of the pitfalls with cheaper phones....

Seen many others using RN4's over there?

Im sure you are aware, but i find What's App, Viber or Line the go when overseas.
Of course, your recipient also needs to be using it

EDIT: I book all my drivers using "What's App" before i leave Australia, same with Airport Transfers or Day Trips.
So simple, do it all in advance, get a photo of the Vehicle you will be in and sometimes the driver too, all in advance, negotiate price all in advance.
Has made travelling in Asia so simple
