    Tks Husky,

    OWNER'S CONTACT DETAILS
Do you have any other cards registered for VAST or Aurora/RABS? If YES, please list existing Smartcard numbers...
Now there is the first hint that existing Aurora remote AND black spot viewers (authorised for commercial Aurora reception via ACMA B58), will automatically gain approval ... when the gun goes off.

According to the MySatTV statement below, most Aurora viewers (ie Remote Central and Eastern Australia - RABS) may be covered by the end of the year.

Am I eligible to get the new service?

In the long term, (in line with the switch off of the analogue signal) all viewers who are unable to receive adequate “terrestrial” services or who live in the Remote Central and Eastern Australia licence area (RABS) will be eligible to access the commercial channels on the new satellite service. ABC and SBS will be automatically available.
    .
    .
    .
When is the new service going to be available?

Eligible viewers in Mildura/Sunraysia are now able to watch the programs.

Viewers in the Spencer Gulf area and existing RABS viewers who currently watch Southern Cross and Imparja via satellite will be able to convert to this new service later in the year. Please keep checking this site for more definititve information which will be available soon.
It does not limit it to RABS viewers in the Spencer Gulf area being able to convert... but rather its says "and existing RABS viewers".

The Alice Springs digital terrestrial stuff is the last on the list... late 2013!

So still hopeful to get VAST before the 'townies' get their terrestrial stuff,

    regards,
    AJM (outback Central Australian region)

I think that this is the worrying part for us already on Aurora....

My interpretation of this, is that those Aurora viewers will now only be switched over, as analogue is actually turned off in their zone, not before.

So, if like me, Mt Moombil area change over is 2013 for analogue shut off, I then have to wait until then to swap to VAST.

Up until last week, I felt the direction things were travelling, was that all Aurora viewers would have the chance to swap at the end of this year, but this is not now as clear as it once was indicated?

Maybe I'm wrong, and truely hope I am, as to date, I cannot get reliable analogue or digital, and cannot receive the full suite of channels that VAST now delivers until they let me.

    Very frustrating indeed.

That is my undertanding too. WA won't switch over to 2013 so have to wait to swap my Aurora IR2 card to a VAST card at that time.

I am with you Viewer but would add that there is another variable to all of this. That is the self serving mentality of the beaurocrats within Conroy's Department and the associated power games which will inevitably result in delay in authorisation of VAST until the last minute, ie 2012/13. These guys want to maintain and expand their little empires - such agendas are not satisfied by doing the decent thing and allowing access to all Aurora viewers by the end of this year.

I have crusaded my way writing to all the politicians, Conroy, federal and state members, the acma, digitalready, you name it.

I guess I became obsessed, as I just can't understand how uncaring both the government as well as commercial broadcasters have become on the issue.

I need to take a chill pill, but always cave in and keep trying, but always to no avail.

I just don't understand why they don't want to help?

    Tis most odd.

    It is completely crazy.

Better call the three independents and log a claim.

I'll be getting VAST boxes in stock, hopefully soon. Just waiting on stock availability.

I'll probably start a new thread when they're available.

Obviously purchasers are responsible for activating the smartcard.

Although it's been said existing Aurora viewers 'will be given access to VAST later this year'... I've heard it may be March 2011 before that happens.

I thinks it's a classic case of 'believe it when we see it'.

The present system only encourages persons to consider stealth/fraud/deception, the same way customers of pay tv have done, and keep doing, in relocating their receivers to beat the monopoly situations.

To have to resort to this to get free tv is illogical.

I imagine plenty of users will do this though.

I havent seen any penalties or threats of Legal action (Courts) to obtain and activate a VAST stb outside the current 'Switched On' area and as its FTA theres no money involved so as far as I am concerned, I will lie through my teeth if I decide to obtain one without a qualm or twig of concience.

Thats one aspect (Legalities) no one has mentioned that I know of, of doing the above so whats the Story??

I would expect all that may happen to those who are found to have submitted false address information is to have their smartcard blocked... no service.

All that would be needed would be a private database of eligible VAST areas as they come on line, and helpful/willing members in those areas volunteering their address details for us unfortunates. As per Aurora, I believe VAST has no limit on the number of boxes an eligible household can use.

I would volunteer today to assist a fellow member if I could, but as my area is not yet authorised, and I can't help.

It's our choice as to how many STB's you want to have in your own house.
I shouldn't and will not have to dictate to anyone, why I want to have a certain number in the house. If I have the cash, and live in a blackspot area, then there shouldn't be any questions.

One for the main bedroom, second bedroom, third..., lounge room, living room, patio, shed, granny flat, sun room, kitchen, sheering shed, caravan... My house, my choice!!

Might depend on how many friends I have... hey... lol

Absolutely crazy, just to obtain FTA.

Xplorer, how many TV's do people have in their homes, irrespective of Terrestial or Satelitte areas ?
Dont forget to add any computers with TV cards or inbuilt tuners.
If there is no restriction on how many you can have in Terrestial areas, apart from the cost, why cant those in Satelitte areas have the same???

MTV, I expected that would be one option at least as I have never read or heard any other form of penalty applicable.
I stand unequivicably behind everything I say , I just dont ever remember saying it !!
