Default Freeware to convert .dvr file to .avi or mpeg

I have been trying to convert what I think is a dvr file from CCTV dvr recorder to avi, mpeg or any other format so that I can play on my desktop pc. Is there a freeware site to download?

    Thanks

Not dvr, but I have avr files from my Mediastar and I use ProjectX to demux them and the something like encore to re-encode them back to a DVDR.

ProjectX is a Java based program so should be fine no matter what PC you use.
Coding in C is like sending a 3 year old to do groceries. You gotta tell them exactly what you want or you'll end up with a cupboard full of pop tarts and pancake mix.

Thanks. I wonder if the file extension is .dvr because there seem to be no extention? The unit is a Professional Pentaplex DVR, could it be that its decoded? It comes with a special DVR Player sofware which able to transfer into jpeg or .avi. If the clip is short, its unable to transfer to avi. The replay clip is in fast motion.

Can any 1 say exactly which software can do the conversion & slow to normal speed.

Most DVR's use their own file type with their own codec to avoid tampering with the footage (for evidential reasons) so unless the conversion software has the codec used in the DVR, your chances are going to be slim.

Does the DVR come with it's own player? Do you have the DVR brand name, or is it a no-name ebay job...?

You may try iDealshare VideoGo which can , and etc on Windows or Mac.

It even helps to extract audio from DVR video and then convert to audio formats.

To convert Files I use a app called Xilisoft HD videos converter. I been using this app for years. It isn't free but I think they have a trail version. I have never personally tried to convert a dvr file.
