I'd say a faulty Phillips switch LOL

Only starts/runs if you hold the power button right in.
Let it go and it shuts down.
Been FAR too long since I repaired a TV :|

When you do things right, people won't be sure that you have done anything at all
If I didn't know any better I'd say you were taking the pi$$ :P
However, the thought of the switch did cross my mind. Although, I can't see how. If it's the same as the earlier switches they used on the GR1 sets etc, then all they have is two pair of mains contacts and a pair of "reset" contacts that tell the micro to "restart" effectively.
Obviously this set of contacts is working as it's only when the switch is held all the way in that the set will run.
Does the standby led stay on when you release the switch?
If not you have no mains voltage.
Just change the switch.

Thanks Dash... now that I think about it, the switch does seem familiar for this fault... off to find a new one I think!
Or just bridge it out and use the remote for switching on/off for now.
Dash.
My money is on the switch
