    Default Service center software

    Hi All.

I just want to know what software other techs are using.

You know... to track jobs, customers, etc.....
Also the cost of the package you use would be good to know

Maybe a member here could build a decent one.

For me, B.E.S.T & Paperworks are out.... Both have problems

This also looks like a nice template to modify

    This looks good too

$100 buys a unlocked version that can be customised & manipulated - Looks like a reasonable template

Suits small one engineer firms or larger companies with an army of engineers, workshop or on-site repairs. Record all your clients, their units (things you repair), service details including parts, labour, travel etc and invoice them.

Suitable for all maintenance and repair sectors; office machinery and computers, industrial equipment, motor vehicles, plant & machinery etc.

Client database with full unit repair history and details of parts & labour charges and costs.

Parts database to record unit costs and charges.

Automatically adopts your local currency and date formats

Select the client, select the unit, add a service detailing the parts and labour and print an invoice (either as a tax document or as an input source to your separate accounts package).

Set the unit service interval and each time a service is entered for that unit, the next service date is set automatically.

Print a list of units due for service within a date range and other criteria so that you can canvass for appointments.

Print a unit's full service history; what repairs and maintenance have been completed and all the notes and details about the unit and each service including all service costs and charges.

    So simple to use

No user licences or repeat fees (you buy the "freehold" with the full version)

Fully customisable, you can add your own additional functionality (the database is not locked, so you can change or add whatever you need)

B.E.S.T. is about 15 years old & dos based.
The database often crashes. Copy & paste is difficult. It's antiquated.

Paperworks is not very user friendly. It's windows compatible buts it's search functions are terrible & cumbersome. It could be OK IF it had stuff like outlook calander intergration (it doesn't). It's friggin expensive too

Hi guys.We would be very interested in something functional and user friendly that dont cost the earth like those mentioned.
And it hasnt got to cook you a three course meal when all you want is a hamburger.
Sometimes things can be made too complex and leave out basic sensible things like something we are dealing with at present.

Depending on what you need alot can be done on Access.

Just need to define the things you want.
Yes it can get complicated but most databases are simple.

    Basic Structure
    Log Job In
Details of Customer (License number/Device Model/Serial Number/Problem as Customer says it is. etc)
    Time allocation against unit.
    Parts Used on Job
Invoice printing and sign off sheet for Customer.

    basic Stock Control
    Parts ordered and delivered

At least then you know if you have the part in the shop rather than searching all the shelves.

Let me know if ou want mods on those free databases.
Shouldn't be too hard to do.

    @Fernbay
This B.E.S.T Program. Any chance of having a look. Would like to see if I can transfer the data to Access Database and re-create the basic interface.
    Let me know if interested.

    Default Try this

    Try SmegIt -

Participate in the Beta trial for FREE !!
It's targeted towards authorised service centers who do a lot of warranty repairs.

The trial requires co-operation from users through a forum to help iron out bugs.

    Hi Smeg.
Can you give us an indication of what the price & licencing agreement might be for the finished product?
Reality is an invention of my imagination.

The following info is not firm and is a few years old:

Pricing for the software is $1500 + GST for the software including two terminal licenses. (Frontdesk + workshop) For each extra terminal on the same network there is a charge of $125 + GST for each license there after. Once paid each license is valid for a 12 month period, to continue receiving upgrades & support a renewal fee of $50 + GST per existing license will be applicable. Any new terminal licenses will be $125 + GST each.

Not sure of a completion date at this point as the market for this type of software has declined considerably... The software is mostly complete apart from stock control and some bug fixes.
