    Default Rear projection TV issue

our old trusty rear projection TV has started to exhibit a weird problem. Are there any technicians on here that can shed some light as what the problem may be? Is it component failure?

Check out the pics...Thanks for any info.

And both convergence ic's ic 70000 and ic 70001
you don't have to replace both ic's but it is
    good practice

yeh and the vertical chip too, there is a pulse that comes out of it to the convergence ic's, that blankets the job, but that looks like just one of the convergence ic's has failed. we did one here last week and changed the lot to save a callback

Hi Bluedog - Any idea what component number on the PCB the vertical chip is? Actually could you go one step further and also tell me the part number if you have it handy.

    Thanks a lot

I wouldn't trust Frank Drebin with fixing a stamp to an envelope, let alone fixing a TV

A guy at work has similar problems with a Samsung. I have not seen it, but the pictures above match what he described to me.He asked in 2 tv repair shops in Coffs Harbour, and they say approx $500 to repair. Are they kidding him, or is the price right? He is talking of getting a plasma or lcd if that is the case.
    Thoughts??

well this is it. I didnt even bother taking it to a repair shop because as it stands anything over $200 is not worth it on a 7 year old TV - especially an old rear projection 4:3 unit. Labour alone would cost at least that much and whatever else it would cost to quote the repair itself.

I figured if I could spend $50 in parts and try to repair it myself, what have I lost. Flat panels are so cheap these days if the Pano has gone by the wayside, then ill just take the plunge and go a new TV altogether and ditch the Pano.

My old ladies samsung is doing the exact same thing and as she lives out of town a bit no one will come out to fix it for her.
Dont know the model number but its a 105 cm rear projection about 5 or 6 yrs old.
Any help on what I need to replace would be appreciated.

    Cheers
