Unhappy Faulty Panasonic DVD Recoder Model No: DMR-ES15

I have a problem with my Panasonic DVD Recoder Model No: DMR-ES15
It will no longer read discs. if you place any original or burnt disc in the player and it brings up a "No Read" message.

Does any one know what the problem may be or have a repair manual for one and do you know if parts may still be available for it?

    Thanks in advance
    Moof

    Moof,

Sound like the DVD+Servo board might be the problem, I did one yesterday

I'm pretty sure the part no. is RFKNES15GNR

    Not cheap.

Check with your local panasonic supplier.

I think they are in the vacinity of $200 or there-abouts.

It would be good idea to clean the lens first as I have found this to sometimes be the problem.

Having said that, it is not uncommon for there to be problems with the laser control circuitry necessitating replacement as indicated by others.

    Sad really.

Once was the time you'd repair it simply because it was Panasonic.

These days their stuff has joined the ranks of the "throw-away" consumer society.

Buy it, use it, toss it when it fails, buy another one. Not because the item is necessarily "junk", but that the cost of spare parts and repair is often more than the price to purchase another one.

Well, when they want to charge $400~$500 for a DVR-RW as a spare part, of course the will go broke

actually no mate, it will make them money, cause they are in the business of SELLING new units not repairing old ones, not even selling spares, they do however have to do warranty repairs and hence must keep stock for repair, but once out of warranty they WANT you to throw it away.

now if you thinking "right then, if it breaks and costs that much to repair then i get another brand" now theres another 40,000 people nation wide have thourght the same thing.... but they had a different brand, and will now buy just the same one you've just sworn never to buy!

what happens is the one you buy that lasts a while will be the brand you swear by, doesnt matter what brand!

the alternative is to pay big time and get something worth while that will last, but it costs, then it will last for a long time and if not you complain and it will get fixed for free or subsidised repair

we will end up with a 2 tier consumer electronics market, the dirt cheap crap that you ALWAYS get ext warranty with as it prob wont last long, and the stuff you pay a fortune for that can always get fixed even for alot of money cause it worth it.

Guys remember Mitsubishi General Panasonic Sony of the old days and ive left some out.20 years ago lol.The Ranks that went longer.
    You could recommend stuff then.
I dont think it matters how much you spend nowadays you cant get that quality.
Yea IWAC its good how the parts prices go up when the crap goes out of warranty.

its usually just the dvd loader and the pcb that needs replacing in them. they are a good unit while they are working. i have replaced dvd's in them under warranty, you have to get the old parts back to pana within 14 days or they reject the claim and wont pay you for the parts. they are hard nosed like that

its surprising you decided to buy another one, the idea of pricing the parts out of reach to make people buy new ones seems silly , but its worked in this case. most people say they would " never buy one of those again! ", then they go buy a samsung or lg which will be in for service in 2 months !

    Hi all

The thing is with these units is that they all seem to have the same fault (in my experience anyway) where the traverse assembly seeks and crashes up against the home position for 10 seconds or so. You can always hear it before you even take the lid off the thing. And I find it a bit sus that Panasonic wants them back when under warranty for exchange - it mustn’t be too hard to fix for them to want them back to repair. I have got some assemblies from Panasonic that are not new (rework?). It would be great to find a fix for this fault eh? Someone doing repairs on them would save customers a packet. Out of warranty they just aren’t worth it unfortunately. Same with a lot of Jap stuff now...not just electronics.
