Default TomTom 7 working on Aldi PWM-3501

Well after a lot of tears and pulling my hair out I finally got some results out of the Tevion unit. I’ve managed to get Tom Tom 7 working very well on the thing which should be good news for a few of you here.

I discovered people with Nav units running Win CE 4.2 also had the same problem. A solution someone posted on another forum involved fooling the unit into always calculating a predetermined route when the program is executed. It involves using a “mort script” to copy a couple of files from a backup made in another folder before the program is executed each time.

I have made a guide which you can find below. In the files I have prepared it always prepares a route from Ultimo to the City in Sydney. This is fine if you are near Sydney although if you are far away it will take quite some time to prepare this route as it will try to navigate from your location.

If you can’t stand how long it takes to prepare the route you are best to use the second guide below that was prepared by a member on another forum. This will tell you how to prepare the map settings file to suit a location near you.

Currently I have got it running with the latest 7910.9185 program although the maps are 720.1868. The latest 815.2059 maps cause another out of memory error.

    Tutorial:

    7910.9185 Software Modded for Tevion:

    720.9185 Australia Maps:

    Easy To Use Key Generator:

    Modified GPS.txt:

    ActiveSync 4.1:

Below is the original procedure for making your own initial route (MapSettings.dat) file. Passwords to the files are “demonfatal”. You still need to use the modified mort script file though:

Modified mort script for those using the second procedure:

Also if you want to run it off your SD Card instead of the internal memory modify the mort script file in a text editor so that all the references to “VDisk” are changed to “Storage Card”. Change the GPS.txt file on the Tevion to refer to the Storage Card as well.

    Happy New Year

    Default HELP from ZEEP Required!

    Hi,

ZEEP, I modified the GPS.txt file to boot Oziexplorer from the SD card and it works fine. However, I would like to be able to select either the original Route 66 software or Oziexplorer running on the SD card. Reading your post, it seems like you may have the skills to help me out.
Is there a way this can be done? I have activesync and CeRegEditor running OK.

    THANKS in Advance.

If you edit gps.txt so that it says \Windows\explorer.exe it will boot to the windows desktop when you select gps from the mainmenu. You can then have shortcuts on the desktop for each of your programs.

There is a way to edit the registry also so that it boots straight to Windows desktop. I can tell you how to do this as well although its probably handier to do it the above way.

I suppose you could always make up some kind of other menu as well for the programs. Windows desktop is ok though.

Did you follow the above instructions exactly?

Sounds like your map activation file is wrong. If you don't have one at all I believe it says no maps. If it's activation failed you must have done something wrong when making the file using the keygen.

Also is the version of TomTom your running the exact one as downloaded from this thread? If its an older version 7 or version 6 then you activate it a bit differant.

Yes,I did.must be something wrong with the keygen.
I downloaded Tom Tom from your link.
After fiddling around some more, it won't start at all, LOL.Still got my R66 back.Have to start afresh tomorrow again.
I'm using Wince5,loaded Navigator and Australia and Mortscript on SDMMC card, changed shell.ini to Shell|SDMMC\Navigator\Tom Tom Navigator, and it started.coming up with,Activation failed. Now ,nothing.I'll try again tomorrow. Thanks for your help.

When you connect with activesync what is the folder name of your SD Card. On our PWM-3501 it is "Storage Card"

From reading the above it sounds like the the folder name on your device is SDMMC. In either case if you want to run it off your SD card you have to edit TT7 Navigator.mscr to point to your SD card. Also you need to run TT7 Navigator.exe to start the program.

Why not change the shell.ini parameter to Windows\explorer.exe to make it start into windows and make it easier to play around first. You can then browse to your SD card and launch programs that way.

Just to clarify did you download from my Megaupload or did you go to the demonfatal link?

The version on his site requires it to be activated for version 7 so my process wont work. You have to follow his instructions. Mine is newer so it requires activation for version 8.

I just installed Tom Tom 7 on my PWM-3501 unit, runs like a treat.

Thanks for the tutorial and files Zeep, Tom Tom is far superior to Route 66.

I'm running it from a Windows Desktop and running OziExplorer as well.

Another tip for anyone else is get rid of the games folders to free up more space.

I found that the out of memory error only occurs when changing the Arrow from default to something else. easy way around this is to save the preferred arrow as -default to the cars folder.

Once again, thanks for the tutorial and files zeep.

Yeah i've noticed if you change the voice in the menu as well it causes the dreaded "out of memory" as well. It's something to do with its negotiations with Windows I don't think it is actually out of memory.

Just keep a backup on your PC and reload it on there if you screw something up.

    Got this working as desribed.

I tried the demon fatal method, but it never worked properly for me and kept crashing with an out of memory error.

Does anyone know how to change the default route on startup? Im in Victoria not NSW, so id like to change it to something a little closer by.

As i said, tried demonfatal method, with no luck.

Does anyone have another CurrentMap.dat or any idea how to change it ?

Delete currentmap.dat from the Navigator folder before you launch any of the programs if you use the DemonFatal method. Forgot to put this in the first post. This seems to be an issue only with that Aldi unit so he doesn't have that in his instructions.

EDIT : If you use my modified mortscript and associated i posted above with the demonfatal method shouldn't have that Out of memory error hopefully. If you do it on an SD card though you obviously have to edit the script to point to the SD card.

Then after the step where you produce your good MapSettings file just use that with my proceedure.

If you still can't get it sorted ill just post up one for Melbourne.

    Thanks, Zeep

Hi Zeep. My 3501 is working perfectly using your method. Thanks heaps. Have you had any luck updating to newer maps without getting the out of memory error? If so I would appreciate you sharing the "how to".
Also, for some reason the key gens I have successfully used previously no longer work. ANy thoughts on this problem. Cheers
