    Default Solution alarm trouble, help

Hey fellas i have what i believe to be a solution 862 alarm in my in-laws place
(It looks exactly like the 862 panel i have found on the net.. cant find any markings etc on it)

Problem is zone 5 on the display is constantly ON.
No fault indicator on panel showing
when i hold 5 down it goes into diagnostics mode i believe with zone 2 now on (date and time) but i cant set that because i dont know the master pass i believe.

When im in zone 5 moving around i see the red light on the sensor picking my movement up but when i arm the alarm and move in zone 5 it doesnt go off (any other zone it does)

    any ideas?

    Cool

If zone 5 is permanently on then it is not seeing the end of line resistor in the PIR. This could be because of a faulty PIR or faulty cabling. Hopefully it is not a faulty zone I/P on the PCB. If the LED on the PIR is working then the power feed to the PIR is OK. You need to ID the wires feeding the zone I/P (probably Blue & white OR yellow & green ). Disconnect these from the term strip in the PIR & connect the Resistor in the PIR directly to them. If the zone led on the codepad goes out then you have a crook PIR ( ie the panel can see the resistor at the end of the pir cable ) If it doesn't go out then it is most likely a cable fault. There are lots of other possibilities but these are the first checks to make.

Ok sounds easy enough, i have never worked on alarms before tho
will disconnecting the pir make the alarm sound? or there is no feature like that?

    Cool

Disconnecting the pir won't make the sirens go as long as the panel is not armed ( & as long as the tampers are not wired to a tamper zone which almost certainly wont be the case). As far as resetting the time & date most "normal" installers will have the user code as code 1 ( master code) for exactly that reason - so you can operate the user functions. It is not unknown for some F##@%wits to not make the user code the master code so then they can charge a service call just for comming around to set time/date or change codes etc

    i found the "solution" haha
was the tamper switch in the pir that was open (someone had used masking tape to hold it down, dodgy!) as soon as i closed it et voila! it works

    thanks fellas for the help
