Default Helping a Dreambox last "power on or off?"

Well i have often wondered what is best for these linux based decoders/computers?

I have for years upon years now last left my DM7000 on (not even on stand by, as all that seems to do is close the Video Outputs and turn off the LCD display)
I guess i have been working on the old school computer idea that a PC will last longer if it's left on then constantly turned on and off.

    With most Dreamboxes you have 3 levels of turning them off;

    Standy
    Shutdown
Or Switch them off at the rear panel switch or pull the plug.

Does anyone suggest a prefference that would help the aging Dreamboxes keep on keeping on?

I know it kind of makes sense to Shut them dowm, but i have always thought a fault would occur on re-booting one day?
I can also see leaving them on 24/7 invites heat related issues (drying of Caps etc).
I recently lost the PSU on another brand linux decoder, and that one was only 2 years old and was turned off a lot of the time?

I really have no experience in these matters.... Would be grateful to know what the best option is

    Thanks

I leave all my dreamboxes ON and switch off the TV's .
I've had no issues , but I live in NZ where the temperture's are slightly cooler which counter's any heating issues .
All depends on which manufacturer has made the unit i guess as some are better quality than others .

all the talk about temperature and much to my surprise when Victoria and South Australia get close to our summer temps, not one complaint from any DM user about this issue.

Leave them on, turn them off, up to you. I leave mine on in most cases with uptimes of over 90 days and that is only because of local power cuts.

Thanks guys, yeah i do the same... it's always on. But you never know what others do i guess. Nice to ask.

Like you have all said, mine has been on 24/7 for years with no problems (so far).. i have just been thinking these babys are starting to get long in the tooth now, perhaps time to treat them like the elderly

But then again... if it ain't broke, don't try and fix it i guess

I have even played with the idea of replacing the Caps on the PSU said of the motherboard (DM7000)... just to be nice.

Knowing my luck, i'd probably do it more damage than help

Yes it is in Southern Victoria and in a well vented cool place.
I have even added external fans on top of them with external power supplying the fan, in other installations where airflow is limited.
But mine has none of this as it has plenty of cool airflow and space around it.
