To fool the update version, and to prevent a message saying something about "no previous version instaled"
Add a registry key as follows:
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Garmin\MapSource\Famil ies\BlueChart Pacific v7]

You only need to install using the MSI file to fool it.
    Works with any Garmin software.

It's a map ........ copy it to your Garmin folder.
If you want to use 2 maps ... rename it gmapsup2.img
If you want to use 3 maps ... rename it gmapsup3.img
    and so on.

I was always under the impression that M3 was for individual area maps
rather than maps that have been compiled/prepared by Mapsource for delivery to the unit.
In any case, it doesn't open this image file.

No luck with this either unfortunately... I have a GPSmap 60csx.
Maybe it works on other models?

If I name the file gmapsup2, it isn't found in the list of map products/sets on the unit.
It can be used if it is the only map on the unit though, but I use City Nav much more.
    Art.

Thanks for the tip on map naming. I renamed the topo maps and now I have contours over my City Nav 2009

I don't think the original links are Garmin maps. They're showing up as Tracks4Australia PRO v1.2:

The package said Track4Australia and OzTopo.
The 20 M conours are probably part of the OzTopo product which isn't Garmin.

so has anyone actually got these programs to do anything
    cgpsmapper.exe and MapSetToolKit.exe
you need to put in family ID and product code, where would they be found?

when I try to open the map into the cgpsmapper.exe and MapSetToolKit.exe software it says
"can not find the file or the file name is not composed always from 8 digits (eg 12345678.img)"

but I have not renamed the file, it's as it came from the RAR files

My Nuvi doesn't find any maps renamed like that

also Nuvi needs routing maps to work so I can't just load the topo and disable the routable

Generally, you create your own map with Mapedit, name the output image file xxxxxxxx.img,
then M3 is cool with it. You can also use a single image file from a Mapsource product.
I'm 99% sure this one doesn't work that way because it is precompiled by
Mapsource ready to load to a GPS, contains two map products with data for multiple areas which overlap, etc.

So if it was compiled in Mapsource then why doesn't Mapsource open the map? is there some additional data file needed before Mapsource recognises it?
