    Default JADE2 E1 problems?

    Hi,

I took the plunge today and uploaded Jade2 Enigma1 to my DM500.

Now nothing but Blue Screen of Death!!!!

I used DCC/tools/update_flash_image Hit execute, rebooted when told, then
    nothing.

I can not get into it via the serial port and DreamUp

    Any ideas?

    Is it bricked?

    Thanks for your time

Have you used the com port before? EG RS232 upload.

Disconnect ethernet cable and start box. I've found sometimes when it locks up, it starts searching the network, cause it's there! So by disconnecting, then the box will not look at that part.

If you cant connect via com port, then I'm thinking you've got real drama's. If it was working ok prior to upload and you've more than likely done something wrong in your 'flashing' then I think the RS232 is your only hope. I have had drama's with that. I ended up using a different PC and it worked straight away. So dont get carried away that it may not connect, erase, flash.

It's critical to know if you've connected with the PC your using, to the dream via RS232.

Yes, I did when I first got the unit months ago, when I uploaded Pli Jade1. I used DreamUp and comport+network and all worked ok then. I did try DreamUp prior to using DCC but couldnt get the DM500 & PC to connect.

I am hard pressed to find another computer with a serial port in the house, all have only USB and I lack a USB<>serial adaptor. but will look into it to at least try on another computer.

Check the voltage on your power supply.

well, BSD is just a generic term for video mute on the TV. I have no pictures just the Blue screen.

As to serial port, who knows? I can not connect into it, it did before but not now.

I am using proper serial ports, you remember those that came attached to motherboards when computers young and the universe full of adventure

cross pins 2 & 3 gnd straight through. if thatt the right way then yes.

I might add that there is no blinking of the green led when I use the remote so it is unresponsive in that way as well.

well it looks as thought it is permanetly off then....i cant get beyond that.

I have a strange feeling that I missed a step......

upload image to /tmp as root.cramfs

    I rebooted

but I think I should have gone to expert menu and done a manual install??????

I think that DCC copied the img file to the /tmp directory then erased the current image from the flash where I should have gone to the menu and installed trhe image manually, which I didnt (damn damn damn) and the result as I see it is a flash memory with nothing in it to boot?

    sound plausable???

Do you use component connection to your tv??

If so it has probably defaulted to compisite after being reimaged.
Don't worry, it only seems kinky the first time.

Make sure you're using a proper null modem cable, not just gnd + 2 + 3. Null modem includes hardware handshaking wires, not just data, and it's unlikely DreamUp will work properly over RS232 unless the null modem cable is fully wired. If all your previous updates were with ethernet cable present then that may be your problem.

I disagree, I used a simple 3 wire null modem just after I got my first DM500 and succesfully used DreamUp, same version that is on the PC now, to update to PLI Jade 1, hovever I will hunt out my FULL nullmodem box and give that one last go. Damn, damn, got to go from db25 to db9...more looking for gender changes.

Just tried it and still no go.

Also I just tried to ping the ranges 192.168.0.255 & 192.168.1.255 to see if it had defaulted back to its original IP address but still dead.

I think I have to call it a brick????

Anyone been successful with jtagging a dm500s??

Thanks guys & maybe gals for your suggestions.
