    Default Phone line voltage drops

    Hi All
I now have two clients with phone lines that the voltage drops down to around 7 volts when a call is made. This voltage drop is not allowing the alarm to communicate. Telstra's opinion is if it's ok for voice it's ok.
I have spoken to some techs who have had the same problem but cannot get line rectified.
Any help would be much appreciated.

So what is it like for a voice call. Rightly or wrongly , Telstra provide a telephone service & do not guarantee the operation of other equipment on the line.
Does the line voltage drop to 7v on a voice call ?

Yeh Watchdog as soon as I switch on butt phone voltage drops.
Watched voltage at rest only 38.4 V as soon as dialer seized the line drop down to 7.4 V.
Please do not use the words TELSTRA and SERVICE together.
Same thing happened at another site 2 weeks ago. Only voltage drop was more severe 49.2V down to 6.4V

38 v seems bit low should be around 48v, is that with the jumper off?
Ask for a full test this will give me lots more to work on
Have you tried wiring direct to the alarm with no other equipment connected

    Default Had similar problem

I had the same problem several months ago. Put in a brand new panel and it would not dial as the off hook voltage was 5.5volts. Listed the fault with Optus as the customer held the account with them. turned out to be foreign battery. All fixed and working fine. Most panels need around 8 volts minimum

If this is a business, and t are being a pain, maybe upgrade them to GPRS :P
    Problem solved, client's security upgraded.

Of course this does not suite everyone, but t should fix that problem, considering its a business line dedicated for a security system.

Or Safecom ! lot faster, lot cheaper & lot more reliable

Otherwise you will have to wait for weeks even months before a Helstra tech comes and fixes the fault (probably at the exchange, had this problem a few years ago. was a faulty line card inside the exchange).

    My two cents worth.

Yep no problem GPRS funny I think as they are not a guaranteed 100% reliable and still in reality requires a land line just in case.
