    Question ised External WD drive not recognwith esata connection

    Hi,

    I have a WD 1tb drive which is currently working fine with a usb connection. When i try the esata however, the drive is not recognized?

    I'm using an adapter which connects to 2 internal sata ports and gives 2 eternal esata ports. I have even disconnected my sata blue ray drive and tried that port with no luck.

    The sata port is turned on in the bios and I get an error on boot up telling me no drive is found on that port. Inter Matrix console also shows the port as being 'unused;

    I've made sure the external drive is switched on before switching on the PC.

    Could it be the sata controller. The following selected info is from Intel Matrix console:

    Intel RAID Controller: Intel(R) 82801GR/GH SATA RAID Controller
    Number of Serial ATA ports: 4
    Unused Port 0
    Device Port: 3
    Device Port Location: Internal

    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Pierre

    Default

    What brand caddy is it ?, I have come across a few now where the e-sata just doesn't work. And one that doesn't like long sata cables.

    Also check your Bios and make sure that you don't have Raid enabled for the sata port(s) you are trying to use.
