The 2562 is not compatible with Windows based Tomtom software - but I thougt I mentioned that ...

6.1 It might be that it is using a different language. If so tap on the screen to open the menu and go into the settings (the spanner symbol) ,go through the menu until you see the language settings (the flags) change to English).
Mine fired up in German,.. click 'continue' then gets the following error message displayed, 'iexplore.exe - cannot fine iexplore.exe (or one of its components). Make sure the path and filename are correct and that all the required libraries are available'.

I haven't put any maps on it yet; just unrarred, copied to SD card and run autoexec and then 'tomtom navigator.exe'

    Any suggestions ?

I'll keep messing about with it,. but meanwhile I thought I'd ask the question.

    Thanks,

    Jim.....

If your device is set up (for the internal system -not the Windows) in German than Tomtom will be in German too.
That can be changed over the menu - just look for the country flags.
The IE error might be because TT is trying to display an error message and the IE would be the standard program for that.
I would suggest to finnish the installation ,including the map, and change the language.

I grabbed same code version from elsewhere and it was already in English,.. apparently if it finds no maps it offers a download capability and this is what brings up the error.

So, yes,.. get some maps on there I think and all should be better.

    Thanks,

    Jim.....

Have made some progress,.. have a working setup now, using 7.910 (9185) with maps Australia_V815_2059 (v815.2059).

I've tried to activate Australia_V840_2562 (v840.2562) using the meta details below without any luck.

    ; Australia_840_2562
    BB C9 58 F3 EB 75 3B 20 C4 0F D2 6C A3 E1 71 FB Australia-106.meta

I used the exact same process, it supposedly generated the dct file, however it won't get recognised.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Suggestion : use the right map

The 2562 is PNA only (Tomtom PNA's)
The 2561 is for PDA and PNA running on Windows

You already choose "other NMEA..." .
The only other difference would be the path for the map - some devices need the map folder in "My Documents" - if not existing you have to make that folder.
But this is usually only good if Tomtom can't find a map...

I will try to find info's on the freezing problem...
thanks for the downloads and tutorials...why im getting no GPS device ive used other nmea and 4800 baud...thanks

Got it now i used com2 and it worked..thanks man

There are test programs and port splitter available if your GPS has problems - but most of the time it is a problem with the settings in your Windows system.
    Is your device unlocked?

Thanks to both downunder and hollowman for the tutes. Some of the best I have seen. Other forums tend to assume you know much more.

    Anyway.

Got 910 working on cheap chinese double din.

Tried Hollowman first. Got maps not found error. For the life of me could not get the maps found. I am fairly sure (now) it has to do with the currentmap.dat file.

Anyway tried the various fixes suggested and none worked. Even after putting all the "other" files in still no map found (but in Dutch)

So deleted the directory and started with downunders method. I also upgraded to the 845.26623 maps at the same time. Activated them as per usual using kegen. Not too much of a problem once I got the correct meta file.

I got tomtom working pretty much straight away. It also found all my maps - I put them in root and My documents. It saw both first time.

I ended up deleting the map in the root and kept the one in my documents, and the currentmap file points to my documents.

    At first no GPS found.

Tapped on bottom left of map screen, went into configure. Changed baud to 4800 and then just selected each com port in turn. Think it was com 8 (or was it com 3?). Anyway it was obvious when I got the right com port as it found satellites straight away.

The system came with Igo on it and it works fine, but maps for Australia are very old now. I have 2008.Q3 and can't find anything much newer.

The tomtom 845.2662 map seems very new. It has things like the new Gateway Bridge roads (brisbane) which the igo map didn't.

So thanks again. Took a few hours - but now seems to be running fine.

You're most welcome - especially after you being able to get it going just by using the tutorials.
There is a newer map available for IGO - actually two ,but I think they should be due in a few weeks anyway.

    Default TT Sticks

Firstly, Thanks Downunder. You realy helped me get TT running on my double dinn chinese unit. I have it running almost perfectly. The only issue I am having is that it sticks after about a minute. I then have to touch the screen and do something for it to come back to life for about another minute.

I have checked the registry and the following has been applied:

    RegWriteDWord( "HKLM", "SystemCurrentControlSetControlPowerTimeouts", "ACUserIdle","0")
    RegWriteDWord( "HKLM", "SystemCurrentControlSetControlPowerTimeouts", "ACSystemIdle","0")
    RegWriteDWord( "HKLM", "SystemCurrentControlSetControlPowerTimeouts", "ACSuspend","0")
    RegWriteDWord( "HKLM", "SystemCurrentControlSetControlPowerTimeouts", "BattUserIdle","0")
    RegWriteDWord( "HKLM", "SystemCurrentControlSetControlPowerTimeouts", "BattSystemIdle","0")
    RegWriteDWord( "HKLM", "SystemCurrentControlSetControlPowerTimeouts", "BattSuspend","0")

    regwritedword( "hklm", "system\currentcontrolset\control\power\timeou ts", "acuseridle", 0 )
    regwritedword( "hklm", "system\currentcontrolset\control\power\timeou ts", "acsystemidle", 0 )
    regwritedword( "hklm", "system\currentcontrolset\control\power\timeou ts", "acsuspend", 0 )
    regwritedword( "hklm", "system\currentcontrolset\control\power\timeou ts", "battuseridle", 0 )
    regwritedword( "hklm", "system\currentcontrolset\control\power\timeou ts", "battsystemidle", 0 )
    regwritedword( "hklm", "system\currentcontrolset\control\power\timeou ts", "battsuspend", 0 )

Does anyone have any idea what else I can try.

You could check if you can find a setting that turns off the screen when the device is doing nothing.
On some devices the screen goes blank after a while when nothing is running and Tomtom is one of a few programs that won't be detected on most devices.

Not sure if it applies to your device though
These problems are the reason why I started to tell people that IGO is better ...
Tomtom is no really updating the Windows based versions anymore
