Default Various Cards How do they derive there names?

Having spent hours looking around here and elsewhere (google included) and not just about this question MANY MANY other things

edit: google even replied back "please stop asking me about this shit!"

I am having a difficult time in understanding how these "cards" get there names.

preface:, I am not asking how to make one, or what they can do or where to acquire one or anything untoward.

Gold/silver/emerald/fun/white/sellers (well forget the last one)

How can a gold card come in a white colour. or a gold card come in white (I understand i think that any card can be printed in any colour pink with green spots)

Is it based on the manufacturer/chipset/OS on these cards, or what may or may not be able to be loaded onto them which makes it a particular candidate for a "colour" category

if thats the case (which I assume its not as if it were), why are there not known for the number

amtel (whatever it is) 7272 1.4

anyone have a link to the history of such things, or some further reading spec sheets.. or a timeline of what was when or a pretty graph (have not checked wiki which I'll do) or some keywords I can punch into my friend..

I even went to a website in china but was not the answer i was looking for I have read that it takes the average joe several weeks to come to understand the particulars of all of this.. putting pieces together

I am definitely missing the basics and would like to read up a bit more. you all seem to know exactly what to G to th O is. I wish I had paid more attention when things were sweet (private joke)

asking is always the hardest thing to do.

    thankyou.

If you feed ducks at a pond, chances are your bound to feed a goose or two without even knowing it.

When PIC16F84 + 24LC16 cards first came out they were gold in colour. So the name stuck.

As to what colour cards are, it all comes back to one thing - Manufactures discretion. They can make them any colour they want

As far as I know their is no colour standard used by manufactures that designates the internal chipset.

I would not go as far as to say that.

Some people have guessed thats what it is.

One reason I say that is because I have held both Gamma & selleres up to a bright light & looked through the wafer to see the silhouette of the internal chip. The 7272 looks nothing like the internals of the gamma or sellers.
