DM 500 appears to be dead???

Hi i was using my dm 500 all morning and turned it off after a few hours of quality television. The next time an hour or so later i turned on the box i got nothing. Just a green light but nothing on the screen. I hooked it up using my serial cable and used dreamup to reflash more then twice. The box each time said it had successfully flashed but each time still nothing just the green light but nothing on the screen. I notice also that i dont get any other lights on inside the box ie the red optical light etc. Is my box dead even though i can flash and reflash the box.

original dm500 image from dreambox
pli jade 3 image
the pli jade 3 image created here by jonc
max var pli jade 3 image

I'd be trying another PSU to begin with.

Check your router to see if a green light is on the port your using. I had a dm500 and it blow up my router and the lan on the back on the dm500. I wasn't very happy.

these use the external power supply and i used the power supply of another dm500 i had and no luck. I am not using an ethernet cable only serial so no need to check light on router.

Sorry, couldn't help myself.
Seems all too common with these boxes.
I have one that was stored away working and when dusted off would not respond to the remote (works fine through webif)

I had the same issue... my fix was

1) Use NULL Cable ( Serial cable ).
2) Launch DreamUp ( via DreamBoxTools V4.0 )
3) Flash Erase The Dreambox with image ( Gemeni 4.60 )



4) After successfully flashed, Remove power supply from dreambox. Wait 10 seconds , plug power back in.

It should come back to life within 30seconds.

Unless a genuine DM500 don't use Gemini. It will astalavista brick your box baby! Go with Pli Jade 3.

Oh yes, I was referring to the Dreambox CLONE from CHINA baby... =)

I never played around with the Genuine Dreambox.... but anyways that above link is an image for the CLONE boxes...
