    Exclamation Sat-Industry zombie payments!

My Visa card just got charged $22 for sat-industry.net premium member subscription, even though Sat-Industry ceased operating in .

It turns out the fault lies with PayPal. They'll charge you for sellers that no longer exist, without warning, and they'll ignore you when you ask for a reversal. The fact that you never receive anything doesn't concern them. I disputed my charge but PayPal closed my dispute, saying "it's not fraudulent". They've not replied to my appeal correspondence.

Moral of the story: if you have a PayPal account, go and check it doesn't have unwanted "recurring payments".
They're hidden under My Account | Profile | Financial Information | Recurring Payments.

What's so annoying about this is I got stung by it . At that time the sat-industry domain registration was still valid. My credit card was charged $30 by "satindustry.net" and I assumed the site admin had placed that transaction manually. I had no idea PayPal had initiated it!

I'm now VERY unimpressed by PayPal. They're failing to notify customers of upcoming automated payments, taking commission on payments for which no service is provided, failing to provide a reversal system for such cases, and dismissing complaints without adequate investigation. I was warned by others many years ago not to trust PayPal, and now I find myself having to make the same warning.

    thats paypals go alright

they dont care about anything except keeping the payments and their commisions rolling along. they need to be regulated like any financial institution.

    Raise a dispute with VISA.
May depend on circumstances, but I just had a reversal for over $200.
Not to do with PP though.

    PayPal's pathetic response

Thank you for contacting PayPal. I am sorry to hear about this
situation, and understand your frustration and concern over the issue.

Unfortunately, PayPal was not able to resolve the dispute between the
two parties due to the item purchased being virtual or intangible. As a
result, PayPal has taken no action on either account at this time.
However, the seller's account has been noted for future reference.

Thanks for sharing your concerns with us. We value what you have to say,
and we know situations like this can be difficult. If you have more
questions, visit our Help Center by clicking "Help" in the top right
    corner of any PayPal page.

    Sincerely,
    Mary

A canned response? I think so.

It demonstrates that PayPal provide NO PROTECTION for purchasers of online services like site or game memberships.

If PayPal were responsible they would
    • Display pending recurring payments on Account Overview screen when customers login.
    • Send an advisory email 7 days prior to each recurring payment, to give opportunity for cancellation.
    • When a seller fails to respond to a complaint, send an advisory email to EVERY customer having recurring payments to that seller, reminding them that they have recurring payments, giving instructions on how to view and manage them.

Contact Paypal. Its obviously a valid paypal account that is debiting you , it shouldnt be hard for them to refund it and cancel the transaction.

I see you just posted and obviously it is

Go with this one , works a treat for me everytime I have had to resort to it. Ask for the name of the person responsible for Paypal tranactions in Australia and all their applicable information as you will be making a claim to the small claims tribunal in your state. Make sure you let them know that they will be required to attend the hearing.

If that takes too long you can do a Visa chargeback but it will usually take as long as what it ususually does to bluff Paypal with small claims.
