Caravans don't move.Set up the dish once your on site thats it, no waves

i had an enquiry as to how one is to set up a dish on a Houseboat. Does this sound like a similar set up to a caravan?
Is there some kind of automatic dish locator that the user sets up once they are docked?

G'Day Cobber,
anything is possible if you're well heeled.
I chased this up on another forum ages ago.
If memory serves me, 4 to 6 grand.
I'll see if I can locate it again, but, as you can imagine, very little interest at those figures. It was a pommy retailer.
Kindest Regards, " The Druid ".
This one will give you a wide variety to choose from.
Down towards the bottom of the page for the ones to suit.

Here is another item from the USA called Track it TV. It is a mount that uses a digital compass to keep the dish aligned with the satellite. It suites any reasonably sized Ku dish and costs about $US900.

There's a number of different auto set-up & tracking dishes, but they basically fall into two types.
One locks onto the signal itself and the other uses GPS coordinates.
The latter is the better system because with the signal loc-tracking system, if you your signal path becomes blocked by terrain... trees, buildings, other vessels passing, etc etc, the dish goes searching until it finds the signal again, so even the slightest loss of signal can take a litllte while to be re-established.
With the GPS system, the dish remains pointed at the satellite and as soon as the signal 'obstruction' clears... the dish is already aligned, so reception is restored much faster.
Dish size is usually restricted to 65cm to reduce wind loading and they are really only intended to be used whilst moored, not cruising along, although some handle slow speed cruising ok.... especially on calm waters.
$50,,, plenty of money left for smokes...

remote, excellent D.I.Y setup in still water but has me doubts about it retaining any signal lock otherwise.
We were watching a doco on the Queen Mary 2 the other day and they showed the 2 enclosed satelitte dish's they used and they were just a tad, only a tad bigger mind you of this setup.
I think Winnebago, the Mobile Home makers have a self searching dish arrangement but as to cost and if it is a 'Set Up On Arrival' only or able to cope with a moving vessel I have no idea.
Seeing that you can spend $500 Grand on one, its as Rolls Royce say, if you have to ask the price, you cant afford one.
Failing that, theres always the mob who build Greg Norman's range of vessels.
There was a product out by Jansat, that was around $1200
It is more a self locating device than a constant device... but it will do the job.

had a customer have a look at one of those oceanboy and the clever little bastard said i,m not paying that sort of money for that and proceeded to buy all the parts off the net for 200 bucks the lot and put it all together and even incorporated the tv antenna as part of the dish folding unit
the man is a fabricator by trade and a very skilled tradesman and all i did was help him mount it on his caravan and run all the cabling
but if any of you are interested i know him well and he would be more than happy to give you a list of parts where he got them from and even how he put it together so you can give it all a go yourself
and the unit even folds down for travelling

They are commonplace in the UK on narrowboats - mostly for live-aboards. From what I can gather, most people only tend to use them when they're moored. Prices are under £100 for a Maplin Camping and Caravanning Satellite Suitcase, which includes dish, LNB, Decoder, various mounts, cable and Satellite finder in a small suitcase. This runs off 12V or 240V.
here is something:
