Those same people would likely say they see no difference between DVD and Blu-ray or between a letterbox or anamorphic DVD transfer, nor can they hear a difference between a record to a CD to an MP3.
The "recent 3D technology" people have seen is achieved at one hell of a resolution. Even the 3D standard the Blu-ray Disc association have come up with has had to double its resolution to ensure the quality of a 3D title remains the same as an existing 2D one (though the specs also require a 3D disc also contain the 2D version).
So unless consumer satellites are going to suddenly delivery thousands of lines of resolution, what we're realistically talking about is Foxtel transmitting a standard definition using "recent 3D technology" which would result in an effective resolution equivalent to that of a VHS tape.
