    Hi all,

Anyone else ever received one of these? and is it enforceable, what action should I take.?

Was the attached complaint about copyright infringement?
    Which corporation is complaining?
Not many here would be innocent of that at some stage.
Hell, why do they offer such big download plans...to watch youtube videos all day?

If it was downloaded by torrents maybe that is what you should stop doing
    Plenty of other options.
If it wasn't due to torrents, could you tell us what?
As I have a combined 100GB monthly download limit (home and work) a fair percentage of my stuff just might fall into "copyright infringement" territory.

I would just bin it - and start using a program like peerguardian.

    Yes,

Good advice, even if it is a little out of date. Peer Guardian has been replaced by Peer Block.

    Anyhow thanks for the feedback.

If anyone is interested in following this topic further Whirlpool seems to have all the right info.

It's under Copyright Infringement - (TPG, "insert your ISP here") - What can they do ?

We are writing this letter on behalf of Showtime Networks Inc. ("SNI").

We have received information that an individual has utilized the below-referenced IP address at the noted date and time to offer downloads of copyrighted television programs through a "peer-to-peer" service, including such title(s) as:

    Dexter
    I'll trade you for NCIS?

    That is quite funny.

Seriously, why do the TV networks get so upset about downloading free to air TV shows...??

They are free to air aren't they!?... I'm not going to wait for 6-12 months to watch the latest Top Gear on Aust Tv...
Maybe they are upset that when they sell it off to other countries and finally air the show I for one won't be watching it??...hhmm

Does anybody know anybody that got busted recording TV with their VCR? Or for that matter showing them to their mates?

I remember when the tv stations opened each morning in Perth with a 5 minute spiel about being carted away to prison if you set your video to record Bluey or whatever was on late.
All the downloading that goes on everywhere with everyone and you cop a warning notice! Like winning Bad Lotto!

i have received many. I never respond, and nothing ever happens. (does not mean it won't - and is certainly not advice).

its like anything else. eventually you will get "flagged".

go private! (does not guarantee 100% either)

Ive gotten quite a few with TPG and have not had anything happen as of yet. Just lie low for a few weeks or goto private trackers or newsgroups

Its mainly just scare tactics and TPG have to pass it on in fear of legal action (there was an aussie isp that didnt pass them on and got caught but i cant remember what they were called)

I am with TPG as well, I have gotten few of them before, I rang TPG and spoke to them about it, they told me that they have to send it to me, but really there is nothing I should worry about, as they can't do anything about it, imagine they send a law suit against you from the states for downloading a torrent.
Just ignore it mate, it's just a thing to scare you off.

Why? Maybe it's beacause the TV networks buy the rights to broadcast the show and due to the popularity of that show sell ad space for a higher rate making a return on their investment. It's the only reason shows are made. Everything you see on TV or hear on the radio is just a medium for advertisers to reach the masses.

However, I do agree that the time it takes to air in this country is a joke. With the technology we have today, they should be streaming live from the US or UK or where ever it is the show originated. If the shows were streamed internationally then we'd record it to our PVR's eliminating the need to download it from the net.

Downloading TV shows and movies from the internet has become socially acceptable in the same way recording your favorite TV show or movie to VHS was.

Bluey?....hahahaha....the fat cop who ran crims down in the cross....Lucky Grills couldn't run down a pizza....he put a few down though...jeez...thats a while ago.

Anyone besides me remember radio and TV licences? You used to have to have one. They ran ads on the tv every day
reminding you that there could be a knock at the door anytime. Frank Thring was in one of them.

    Cheers
