    Default Possible Sata HDD Fault

    Hey Guys,

I have my cousins PC here, he advised that one day after watching a movie on his PC he shut it down, and when he went to restart it the next day it would just freeze on the 1st load up page.

Ive being trying to figure out what the issue is but with no luck.

I have removed the ram, i have taken out the video card, i have disconnected the dvd drive still nothing.

When the hdd is plugged in it takes ages to boot and then windows does not recognise that there is a hdd attached.

I plugged in an old IDE hdd that worked fine.

I think he has vista installed.

Any ideas on what else i should be looking for or testing?
I dont have another sata hdd to test at this stage.

Is there anyway to get into the hdd to do a system restore or try work out what went wrong?

I'll give it a go, but if the hdd is not being recognised it might not help.

Thanks though will have a look.

My choice of attack would be to boot from say Ubuntu Live CD and see if the drive is detected and/or accessable then make decisions from there. Also try the drive in a caddy on another computer or directly in another computer. I prefer the Ubuntu Linux option cause your kinda safe if there is a virus on the drive.
