Why not just a dual DVB-C card (or DVB-S if you have satellite) in one's HTPC/PVR?
Then again, I'm not sure dual DVB-C/S cards exist, so you'd prolly need 2x single DVB-C/S cards
Then again....
I know it's possible to capture up to 4 DVB-T streams with a single DVB-T tuner if all the streams are coming from one transponder.
So the same could be true for a single DVB-C/S tuner...

Ok, my problem is now solved. Instead of passing my USB card reader through to the VM, I left it as a device on the host machine, and simply passed the virtual serial port on the VM to the com port (COM3) of my card reader.
Given that the problem existed in both the VM and an actual Ubuntu machine, and it is fixed now in that same VM, my only conclusion is that it was possibly related to the Linux driver for my card reader? Also supporting this is the fact that it worked fine with NewCS which was running in Windows.
@jalyst, yes dual DVB-S cards do exist... I have one in my computer. Don't know of any dual DVB-C cards though... that's what you were after, right?

I had similar problems and the only way to get it working was to use windows to host the device reader connected to USB and then use the serial port on the vm to communicate.
Not ideal, especially given my next project is to build a Ubuntu only machine as they can perform reliably on just about any spec machine. Also means I don't have to tie up my windows machine with a running vm. Will do for now.
Has anyone here upgraded to version 10LTS of ubuntu yet? Do things still work?

Well, for me, this is actually better, as the Media Center I am using is Windows 7's MC, so I actually prefer the VM rather than running a second machine 24/7.
Not as good as having it run natively in Windows like I did with NewCS, but who am I to complain after finally getting it working stable?
i have multiple cards that are currently still runing newcs. (all same caid but running on different ports).
I am planning to move them to oscam since its been runing perfect.
The question is:
1. Is it better to run a single OSCAM instance, with multiple readers in its config?(on a single tcp port)
or
2. Separate oscam for each card on a separate tcp port?
I was thinking that option one will be more efficient in terms of cache use.
Correct me if wrong. Any advice is appreciated.

Open terminal and type this:
sudo apt-get install pcscd libpcsclite1 gcc g++ libc6-dev pcsc-tools libpcsclite-dev
this should install all the needed pcsc libraries and tools including g++ and gcc.

Make sure you have a current make (debian package: build-essential) and cmake version (>= 2.6) installed. You furthermore need gcc, svn (debian package: subversion), libusb-dev and openssl (debian package: libssl-dev) installed. Consult the handbook of your linux distribution on how to install them if they are missing. Debian and Ubuntu for example uses "sudo apt-get install <package>" or "sudo aptitude install <package> "

Oscam server running on Ubuntu 9.10 (version=0.99.4svn, build #2090, system=i686-pc-linux)
Phoenix Smart Card Reader running on COM3 & set to 3.58 Mhz
I am getting this message in my log
Maximum frequency for this card is formally 5 Mhz, clocking it to 3.57 Mhz
reader started (pid=1234, device=/dev/ttyS2, detect=cd, mhz=357, cardmhz=357)
If i set the mhz = 500 & cardmhz = 500 in the oscam.server my card won't start
My question is:
How can I run the card at 5 Mhz?
How can I improve the ecm time? It's averaging around 475 ms
