    Default Dreambox - Audio

    Hi guys,

    I have a DM-500, clone.
I have tried plugging it into several TV's, the tv's show the audio input as MONO. Have also tried SCART, but stil having the same issue. Tv's are not old, one of them is a brand new LCD tv.

Unfortunately, my home audio system does not have an optical input.

I initially thought this could be an image issue, but no it is not. I have tried Gemini, Nemesis, and now using Pli - yet all are giving me the same result.

I have checked and made sure the system settings in dreambox and they are correct and using mono/left/right. They are set on stereo.

Can someone just throw some ideas at me as I have tried everything I could think of and have not had any success.

Could I find out using the stream? I have 5.1 speaks, but with streams, even box office movies only play through left and righ speakers... maybe 5.1 is transmitted through the stream...

I have 5.1 using the dream. Just noticed that if I chose left or right channel I still get it through both speakers on my TV.

My problem with using 5.1 is you only get 5.1 through the amp. Unless you have red white audio cables connected also then you get stereo too. So I have red/white audio connected to tv and 5.1 connected to amp

OMG, it's not that hard guys.

Dream punches out L&R Audio via RCA and Scart (and LAN for that matter)
Dream serves up AC3 via the Optical Audio output (there is no 5.1 via streaming, i think, don't have a 5.1 Laptop)

You can set these default outputs in menu or by jogging in the Audio buttom menu....

Thats all there is to it........

Note: If you are using AC3, changing the volume or L, R or Stereo will have no effect when using AC3 output. Unless someone has learnt how to turn down light pulses?

I have never had your described problem with multiple Dreamboxes...... seems odd.
Have you looked for the simple things, defective RCA lead etc?

    yep!

i have tried RCA output to RCA input on tv
    tried SCART to RCA

have not tried anything with 5.1 because I do not have a 5.1 stereo system...

have played with all audio settings, shuffled through couple of images like pli gemini nemesis...

results have not changed... maybe a hardware fault? wat u say?

sometimes the RCA connectors on the back of the dreambox 500s have dry joints.

try wiggling the connectors while its working.....

    or get a 7020 ... LOL

Mmmmm you got me thinking about streaming in 5.1?
So i just did this test.
Recorded a 5.1 movie on the HDD (of coarse it is 5.1 on play back via HDD too)
Then i streamed that recording over the LAN to my Mediagate MG350HD and the Audio comes out as 2 Ch L&R.
The Mediagate will play 5.1 Audio when streaming a DVD.ISO or Dvix with 5.1 soundtrack from another location.....

    Mmmmmm this makes no sense!?!?

The recording in the Dreambox HDD is in 5.1: Yes
The Mediagate will play 5.1 over the LAN: Yes
When you play the recording on Dreambox it shows 5.1, when you play the recording via the LAN on the Mediagate it shows 2Ch.

    Mmmmmm more tests to come

Ok, i just Played a 5.1 Audio DVD stored on my Dreambox HDD via my Mediagate over the LAN and it played perfectly in 5.1.... just as it was recorded.

Yet it will not play a recorded 5.1 .ts file over the LAN in 5.1 .

The issue here may be the Mediagate may not play 5.1 .ts files correctly, just as it can npt play WMA PRO, it turn downscales it 2ch.

Sorry, i had nothing else to test it with

yeah mate as I'm sure I tested this a while back with my xbox and it worked. Have you checked the audio setting on mediagate? Cause if you record it it records both options analogue and ac3.

Oh, thats a nice little tip to know me_ashman, cheers.
When paying the .ts file over the LAN with Mediagate, i did hit the Auido button, but it said "no other streams were available".
Now it's morning and i'm sober, i do remember the mediagate has issues with .ts files from the mediagate.

Sometimes when using VLC to stream Dreambox to your laptop, i used to record the compressed .ts stream in the background, then FTP that .ts file from laptop to Mediagate. On playback with Mediagate, it would just show a black screen and the time counting down, if you move the volume control up of down on the Mediagate remote, the Audio would start playing.....

    Bloody strange!
