Default NAS on DM500s - what unit are you using?

I have a Ritmo NAS - model CE-3590 - it cost $74 - and in short IT WORKS!

(for more details see ... )

Yes I know Ritmo is 'cheap c**p' - but if you are a techie - some of their stuff is good value if you have the patience to get it going (their manuals and software drivers are not up to date)...

Anyway .. I have it working for now

When doing some research on NAS devices in general I found that many don’t support simultaneous use of USB and LAN access. As soon as you plug-in the USB cable into your PC - the LAN is disconnected

This seems to be the case with quite a few models / manufacturers (perhaps they use the same generic design?)

Just wondering is some of you would like to share your experience with your NAS devices and their operation ...

    I'll kick it off ...

    Make / Model: Ritmo CE-3590
    Price paid: $74
Supported file systems: Fat32, Fat, Ntfs, Ext3
    Supported shares: NFS, CIFS, SAMBDA
LAN Speed (file transfer): 2.7-3.5 MBytes/sec
    Host USB sockets: 2 x USB2 ports
Supported HDD interface: SATA or IDE
Max HDD capacity: Currently running 500GB WD SATA (should run with 750GB also)
    Firmware version: 0.2.0
    Mount used with DM500s: NFS
Recognized by DM / Type of DM: yes - automounts / DM500s

... it will be interesting to see what other members are using ... perhaps there is a 'clear' winner for those who have not acquired a NAS and are thinking about what to get ...

    Default

    I have FOUR of those.
Two are the NDAS units, and two are the NETSHARE units for ftp.

They are great cause they do hardware mirroring across a LAN.
(they automatically keep the data backed up to a mirrored unit)

BUT they can only handle 8 concurrent connections.

with a notebook drive they are bullet proof.

dealer wholesale price from is cheap....
