fandtm66 is the man to ask.
... OK ... I have a confession to make ...
After posting my experience(s) with a NAS unit - successfully set-up with 500GB of external storage ... I have not got a clue (at the moment) as to how to configure the DM500 to record to the NAS drive ...
I am using Gemini image and my NAS is mounted as an NFS file share and in the following DM directory ...
/var/mnt/nfs
From what I hear Pli image is better suited for recordings / playback .. but I would like to give Gemini a go before trying anything else ...
Is there a good 'how-to'? ... or can one of the members give me a few tips in a speedy set-up

fandtm66 is the man to ask.
this is my setup for the dlink NAS
firstly i renamed the unit to nas then
1: i created a user called dream and password was left empty
2: i created a share called movies
3: i set the share and user with full read and write rights
i set the mount on the dream as
1: cifs
2: ip for nas
3: Directory = movies
4: Local Directory = /hdd
5: Option 1 = rw
6: Option 2 = nolock,rsize=8192,wsize=8192
7: Automount = yes
8: Username = dream
9: password =
10: set the recording on dream as direct file
i then also created a folder called movies inside the share
after you put all that in make sure you save it then reboot the box and check that it did auto mount
GREAT
... will have a go as soon as I get the DM working with the phoenix & gamma ...
Thanks again
Also check out this post from fandtm666, helped me set up recording in no time.
The DM500s mounts the NAS device OK ... (as per above details ... thanks) ... however I'm puzzled with your comment ...
10: set the recording on dream as direct file
... does this relat only to the NUTRINO image that I believe you are using? or to PLi images also??
... I can't find any refrence to this in the PLi - I could be blind - happened before
... the bad thing is that I am getting LOTS of pixelation on recordings
My LAN setup is 100Mbit ethernet cable - but cable is 30 meters from switch - should not be problem as data on LAN flies along at several megabytes per sec ...
.. could this be to do with the PLi image itself ... or the block size settings I sepcified? ... rsize=8192,wsize=8192 ...
Or the fact that I was unable to set ... recording on dream as direct file ??
any 'tips' at how to attain faultless recordings are most welcome (am using PLi 2008 image)
Cheers
been trying various settings with NAS and DM ... all mount OK .. but testing block sizes .. am geting LOTS of pixelations on playback
... I am thinking this is most likely due to poor network response from the NAS whilst writing .ts data to disk
.. playback on DM is true ... i.e. it plays what is recorder - pixelations included (checked with VLC on PC) ..
... hmmm ... has the DM500s got enough CPU grunt to do the housekeeping as well as stream to the NAS device?
... or is there a problem with the network drivers in the PLi image?
... or am I missing some vital settings in the configs which cause the pixelations ?
... ahhh ... all of these questions are 'too much' to cope with on a friday evening
eyesee - I have found the same thing, and would like to know how to fix this too. The interference is chronic at times, but isn't to do with bad signal or anything.
