Default Would you like USB port for a DM500s?

OK ... first a simple question for those who are familiar with the DM500S H/W chipset ... does it have native USB support?

... there are two issues here ...

    1. The chipset may support USB ... however it has never been implemented by DMM (and the subsequent clone builders)

    2. The chipset does not support USB!

If option 1 is true - then there is a posibility of doing a H/W mod and 'bring-out' a USB interface (for the tech minded members). Once we have the physical H/W mod in place - we can then easily have a kernel patch to add the USB device driver ... giving us some native (USB) storage for the DM500s

If option 2 is correct ... then this thread is dead

There's no onchip USB host or device controller on . You could perhaps bolt on a USB host controller via external bus or synchronous serial port. But even if you did a limited embedded host (no hub or keyboard support etc) you'd have your work cut out implementing the OHCI driver, enumeration and usb storage device class. That's assuming you could sort out initialisation issues with uboot and squeeze it all into the available memory. ie it'd be doable but not trivial. If it was just a matter of a few resistors and a USB socket then DMM would certainly have done it

It looks like the DM800 has a USB port if you're desperate
