    e.g. I have two Mystar HD boxes - the dish has a twin LNB - the two leads from the LNB go to the multi-switch - it has two inputs - it has individual leads from the four multi-switch outputs - two leads to each box.

    I changed the Austar supplied multi-switch for an eight output SPAWN multi-switch so I could add an additional two boxes for Aurora and recently one for VAST - still leaving me with one spare.

    Each box automatically selects Vertical or Horizontal depending on what channel the particular box is tuned to.
    If you don't mind me asking - how much to Austar charge for an additional Mystar HD box?

    None whatsoever, Spawn have discontinued some of the models, replaced by more versatile ones. If you can get the older ones, they will work just as well.
    All you need to do is blank off any unused input ports and terminate any unused output ports when using the newer range of units.

    Thanks earlsdon....

    I bet there are a lot of $300 and $500 invoices going out in Quennsland and other places for lost/destroyed receivers since the floods and cyclones.Imagine Foxtel subs on similar bills to Austar I suppose...hope the punters have insurance?

    That could be interesting if the insurer claims the loss (because of the Floods) is an Act of God, how does the 'Punter' get on NOW ???
    Its getting to the point where instead of paying insurance premiums only to have them rejected, to put the money into something else that you can call on when you need it.

    Default Good news

    I have just spoken to Foxtel Technical support and been given carte blanche to share existing Austar/Foxtel dishes with VAST. I am a professional installer.
    Only conditions noted (verbal only but I have carefully noted the call details in case a query is later made);
    • Must not affect Foxtel reception
    • Any additions/modifications to system must use suitable, quality components. Did not actually say they must be approved?

    I asked if any special procedures, applications or notifications are required but was told that is not necessary. Obviously Foxtel is much more accommodating than Austar was (their invariable response to any such request was "NO").
    So, change a single LNB to a dual, or a dual to a quad or instal a multiswitch (4 or 8 way, as required) and all should be fine with a single dish.

    The following links may be of interest;

    Any technical questions, please feel free to ask me but, I am sure, there a plenty of other members here who can also help.

    Jeff

    I wonder have Foxtel have seen the writing on the wall and as we and they must know the use of a PayTV dish has been 'converted' to receive other signals and perhaps with enough current customers asking and suggesting they will cancel their Foxtel service in favour of the FTA VAST if an 'accommodation' cannot be reached !!!
    I would be very surprised to see them agreeing to allowing anyone other than an accredited qualified installer (Foxtel or not) being allowed to do this, but as they say, what the eyes dont see, the head cant bother about.

    Heaven only knows how many in either what was the old Austar/Foxtel areas had Aurora through the same dish or added VAST as it became available......

    This is a huge contrast to posts in the old Austech of Foxtel cutting cables connected to other dish's when doing an install.

    But this is the first post I have ever seen where a claim has been made that a dish installed by Austar/Foxtel still being used for their (PayTv) service can be used to receive other services such as VAST and allowing actual alterations to be made to 'Their' installation.
    I use the word 'Claim' here because as Jeffh says, he has only received VERBAL permission but nothing in writing.
    Its worth posting even in a thread long thought dead because if this is correct, it is a total change of policy by the provider company and I am sure there are those who have 'altered' their PayTV installation for just such a purpose will be happy to know about it.
