Default Saab 9-3 2002 convertible now - opinions, experiences?

Hi all and thanks for your time.

Got great feedback on the BMW328i convertible on these forums and am asking now whether anybody has experience or opinions on the 2002 9-3 Saab convertible.

I can get one for less dough and more recent than the 98 beemer I was looking at. Apparently the SAAB has better safety features (pop-up posts for rolls, side airbags front seats and better leg room for passengers in the back).

Things I'm really interested in knowing are about:

    Rain proof-ness (obviously)
Is turbo lag an issue really
Acceleration compared to standard four cylinders (I currently drive a 92 Falcon wagon 4.1l and it's got serious grunt especially for an LPG fitted vehicle)
    Fuel economy
How do they go for maintenance? Are parts very exxy or hard to get?

And finally... Could I get my surfboards to the beach in the back of the thing with the top down?

    Thanks guys

    Chris
