They only transmit ORT on KU Band on this Satellite , and it is way below the horizon here in Australia.

C Band you may pick up from this Satellite, however they don't appear to be broadcasting ORT on C Band according to Lyngsat.

    Hi Joffaa!
Thanks for the replay.Ort1 is in fact the station I was after. according to Lyngsat "Satellite finder" from my location it shoud be 6 to 7 deg. above horizon. I know that is pretty low.I was watching ORT1 on Express A2 103 East on c Band, but it has been encrypted.
The footprints for russian satellites are hopelessly out of date. Both ABS-1 and ExpressA2, do not cover Australia yet I have been watching ORT1 on A 2for the past year with very strong signal.
Thats why i am asking if anyone was able to receive signal from ABS-1
I do have a 3.6 metre dish, but would have to purchase KU band LNB for central mounting. Please let me know if possible. Thanks beforehand to all.

I was also tracking Express A2 for the last 16 months with great success on 2.3 metre in Melb. However ABS 1 on KU Band is impossible to get here in Oz. I think our only hope is that when Express Am33 ( 96 degress) is launched in 2 weeks , we may get something here on C band/Ku Band for a short period while they test. However I am not too optimistic that it will be a long term thing, but you never know.!

    Hi Joffaa!
many thanks for your replay(I also posted same queery on the other forum to you!) why is it that you say ABS1 is imposible to receive here in australia????
It may not carry any signal beaming our way <But it should be possible to actualy see the satellite 6 to 7 degree above horizon from our location.

Please have a lock on my posting in "Free To Air Satellite Forums.
According to Lyngsat's Footprints neither Asiaset2 -100.5E. or Express A2
at 103E. show any signal to australia YET WE HAVE a very strong signal
here.So the footprints are hopelessly Out of date.Perhaps there is some signal on ABS 1 , I would check it out but I have no KU band LNB for the large dish,I would not dare to try it on the small one.

C band you may be able to pick up. However KU Band you will not pick up from this satellite .
NSS6 Ku band is about as low as you can get on KU Band in Oz.

No Ku-band signals are directed to Australia from this satellite, therefore we are out of the footprint and so no reception is possible.
Lyngsat's contour map for Express A2 (and ultimately sourced from the satellite owner's website) does indicate c-band reception in our part of the world on a "global" (i.e. hemisphere) beam.
Asiasat 2 contour map available at the satellite owner's website is accurate enough.
Contour maps are theoretical only - nobody measures actual signal strengths "on the ground".

A blind scanning set top box will easily find this information for you.

    Where are you walik?

'Cause if you're in Australia, Ku from ABS-1 is just not on.

Tristen has posted the relevant details.

What is a blind scanning set top box ,in what way does it differ to a Receiver.I am located near Philip Island in vic.Australia.would like to start catching some test transmissions from Express AM33 at 96.5.
I know its still floating somewhere between 78 to 80 east.
    Many thanks to All .

A blind scanning STB is just like a car radio set to scan.

It finds all active frequencies and channels and stores them in memory.
