TomPlayer is the freeware one you need to use.

The main features of TomPlayer are :
playing video files (format xvid, divx and MPEG2 are supported)
playing audio files (format mp3 and ogg are supported)
OSD menu while playing a multimedia file. This menu allows you to control sound volume, contrast, delay audio/video, seek the position
    a customizable skins system

All the other players like Media Center and Media studio are limited use programms that you have to pay for before they become fully functional.

It works with all TomToms including the entry level one and XL models.

Official web site for TomPlayer and latest version downloads.

Full package download, screen shots and Installation instructions

I also had a play with Tomplayer. I didn,t like the suggested framrate settings. Not smooth in playback, so I tried a pda file. The tomtom froze and corrupted files on sd card and interal memory.

I couldn't delete corrupted files or do a restore from tomtom home. I ended up renameing the files then it allowed me to delete them. I also ran cmd and did a chkdsk. I dont know which worked but I am up and running again.

One more thing, when I play a movie it takes away POI warnings.

The best video settings for the tomtom one xl are

    bit rate 10mb/s 12bit.
you might be able to try 12mb/s but I havent tried it myself
