Default LG plasma, Black Vertical Line

Hi all, I have an LG RT 42PX10 with a solid black vertical line just to the left of the middle of the screen....

also there are two transparent horizontal lines across the screen.

Is this an actual panel issue or could it be the boards and/or ribbon cables at the bottom on the screen.

    panel number is a PDP42v60001.

    any advice is appreciated.

Could be dj's on the smd resistors on the thick film loom directly below the black bar. It would require removal of the tuner input board chassis to get to it and a soldering iron.

Thanks Mick & Snookums.....within a few minutes of posting & searching the web I found a very handy link of this problem (not that guys aren't handy ) I'll wait till the weekend before I tackle it and hopefully post some pic's.

BTW.....what size soldering iron would you suggest I use, I have 60watt, would this too big or would i just need to make sure the tip is small/fine?

This is what you'll be looking at when you get the bottom assy out.

a small trip iron should do the trick?

Hey Osci, just be careful as that circuit that I posted is part of the Plasma panel and much care must be taken not to damage the ribbon loom. I use about a 60watt adjustable iron to resolder the smd resistors, don't run it too hot.

If any damage does occur the screen will be stuffed.

    Just take your time.

Also when you start to disassemble the and you have the metal chassis that holds the tuner boards in you will see a big board mounted in the centre just below the powersupply remove it and if it has any grey rubber blocks throw the big ones in the bin but keep the 2 smaller ones which are about 2cm square. If it does have the big grey blocks use some contact cleaner to clean that board because the blocks leak a oily substance which can wreck the board. Then put the small 2cm blocks back in.

Thanks for b4l, I have a few spare panels at home I even contemplated changing over all the boards, but don't really know which easier, I'd hate to have a numbers of screws leftover from changeover

    Yeah very very cold iron

Practice on another cable from a busted set is always the way to go

Stripes in 2 directions? (there is also a lighter horizontal stripe)

I would have thought another control board problem. (not that ive got a friggin clue but i blame everything on the control board after what happened to mine. )

    Yep baseball bat time. LOL

Yep as Godzilla said maybe check that control board like I posted before, check for the grey blocks under the board and oily substance on the board. If it has, clean it and check the set before going to plan b (soldering the SMD resistors).

WOW....what a knack one must have for that job!!!!

I took it apart tonight soldered the corresponding ribbons at the bottom of the panel, not too much drama at all, reseated the ribbons and seemed to have fixed the solid black vertical line, but, there is now a greyish/whiteish vertical line exactly in the spot as the black line was, you almost can't see it, not sure what this is but I'll d/l the manual best4less kindly posted and see if I can understand it!

Will have to try and work out what the horizontal lines are now?

Mick, the board that you mentioned underneath was covered in that crap from the rubber blocks, So I cleaned that as much/best as I could.

That faint vertical bar is from screen burn caused by the black bar it might go away over time.

I'll check the control board in the one i'm going to wreck and if it's the later model i'll let you know and send it to you.

If you can get a full on white screen, and run it for as long as possible there is a chance of it all evening out.
Some models have "Whitewash" in the menu.

The metal block under the components will dissipate alot of heat from the soldering iron.
