You will need a Mpeg4 receiver such as: Strong 4930 or Strong 4669X. you can pick one upfrom eBAY for $160. The best LNB for Vinasat1 is Strong brand as it more compatible with the signal.. I have tried many different one( the signals keep on/off).
Everynight, if you blind scan you may pick up some more local( Vietnam) live channels as well- only lasted for a day

FYI, I live in Perth the signal i get on my 3m dish is 85%
A 3M dish is preferred even though I use a 2.3M and with a little time and care can the 2.3M can be pointed for a good signal. Any C-Band LNB will be fine. There's is nothing special about Strong LNB's.
Any MPEG4 receivers can be used from cheap Openbox to the better UltraPlus 900 and 9200 HD PVR receivers.

Just found out that there are free HTV channels now to watch, so i called the same techie up who installed the dish for me before for a quote. He said it requires a complete new setup, he has to re-run the cable, and will cost about $1,500 AUD.

I've been reading all the post on this forum though i'm not sure if i can do this by myself instead of paying $1,500.

The size of the dish installed at my place is 1.6m in diameter, will this able to pick up HTV channels? Also current reception of VTVs channels at my place is not very good as i live close to Sydney airport.

Can someone tell me if it's worth for me to make the change? or i have no choice but to live with what i have?

    Many thanks

    Steve
You always have a choice! You need an a new MPEG4 receiver and you will need a larger dish. A 2.3M can receive the signal but a 3M is better. With that quote I'm guessing a 3M dish has been quoted hence the high price.

Thanks for your quick reply Leroy.

So definitely no good with 1.6 dish then. I don't think my strata will allow me to install a 3M dish on the rooftop. I have a small courtyard so having a 3M dish on the ground is out of discussion!!!

Unless there is other alternative that you know of? e.g. keeping the same dish, and try my luck with the new MPEG4 receiver?

Is it a 1.6M solid or mesh?
I wouldn't buy a new receiver. The dish is too small. You can have a look on satbeams and click on the C-Band vinasat1 beam and you will see it overlay Australia. Then click sydney and you'll see the recommended dish size. It says 2.7M dish is required but you're further north so a 2.3M might work ok.

    Thanks Leroy,

    It's a 1.6 mesh.

Very interesting the link you sent earlier. Will further check with the tech and make a decision.

    Thanks again!!!

Well if tropifish buys an ultraplus receiver and can't get it on his dish at least he can stream them on the internet.

How is this ultraplus receiver work?

I would love to give it a try as i'm dying to watch those htv channels. Given the situation that i'm in as i can't get a 3M dish so if this ultraplus can do the trick then i'm more than happy to try.

    thanks again for the help.

Leroy perhaps you could make a youtube clip showing them in action?

I would do it except my tv in the bedroom with the Ultraplus hooked to it is an ancient 4x3 set.

    Thanks guys!

Leroy, i've read the post #210 you suggested. So I buy this Ultraplus box, connect to my PC, does it need an antena cable goes into it? Then load the zip file with all the viet channels into this box. Then it should work?

Which model of this Ultraplus receiver you will recommend?

Either UltraPlus model. The 900 is the single tuner and the 9200 is the dual tuner but you can have the option of 1 sat tuner and 1 terrestrial tuner for your FTA TV reception so if you don't have a PVR, another option to consider.
Also you can use this in place of your current receiver but you can use it stand alone without the antenna/dish plugged in. Only the internet connection is required. And yes just load the file that's in the zip file.

The receivers come with no hard drive by default. The Western Digital 2.5" AV drives are the ones recommended by the supplier but I've had no issues with others.
The wireless USB network interfaces Ive used are in this post as well as others posted at the end of the doc. I'll pm you with more info.

    Leroy,

I wonder if the hard drive is internal and what type of wire less card (wifi) is it compatible with, will it work on 2.4G or 5G band.

Will NetGear N600 wireless adapter work?

    Regards

    Leo
