I'm confused
I initially thought you were just trying to connect the two DM500's back to back with a LAN crossover cable. Then you mention a router ?
What hardware do you have available to you?
Jimbo 123 your confused!!! i thought i was going to mark the server 192.168.0.1
and the client 192.168.0.2 connect with a cross over cable, card in server, pictures in client. The more i read the more i get confused i gather i need newcs in server and newcmd in client?

So you have a router with IP 192.168.1.254 and you connected 2 dream boxes ( 192.168.1.2 and 192.168.1.3) to the router . First try to ping the 2 boxes from a PC which also connected to the router ( say IP 192.168.1.10 ). If you can ping then you can continue on with install newcs on server ( i would suggest to use CCcam for both server and client )Trying to simply net work 2 DM500s with a cross over cable with PLI ionite (Toors) .Want to install Newcs to server Newcam to client thru a Billion router
Sounds like a plan,.. once each box has whatever it needs, i.e. apps on the dreams & appropriately configured.
But,.. before you get there, each box will need to be 'setup' for that to happen, they'll need to be on your network; assuming that you have a home lan in place.
Once on your home lan,.. the dream should initially fire up using dhcp to get its ip details.
When your dream is on your lan, you can download the right bits using the 'colored' buttons; which one and how depends upon what image you're using.
When your dream has the right apps on there,.. you'll need to connect to them either by telnet, or ftp client - navigate to where the config files are and edit them to suit what you're trying to do.
Repeat for each dream.
Once configured,... then you can take them off your lan, statically configure their addresses, connect them together with a crossover cable and all should be good. Not the way most here would do it, but in theory it should go.
One thing at a time I guess.
