    Default Panasonic TH-P42U20A error 10

    Howdy.....
I have a friends Panasonic TH-P42-U20A plasma up on the bench (favour job, why do we agree to these things?? ) and it gives a 10 blink error, I have looked at various sites and all seem to think the power supply is at fault but after checking it as best I can I cannot find any components at fault. Once powered the relays click on and click (off?) again about 1 second later. Any help greatly appreciated...

    Regards - Tony Eagling

TH-PXX 10 blink error codes are usually the SC or SN boards - SN on 42 inch models

+1, this has a SC board, TXNSC11DEK42, TXNSC1LHUU, TNPA5105AD, real good chance it will that board. You can do this for a check of 10 blink.

    TV OFF.

    Disconnect at

    PSU, P35, : SC SC2: SS SS11 : A-board the 3 white flat ribbons

Now turn it on, it may auto-start or use remote. It should start-up locked green LED. At this point the A and PSU are on. 10 blink is detected at the A board, this will clear those 2.

Run no more than 30 secs, turn off once you get a result either way.

DON'T reconnect any power leads (SC2, SS11 or P35) they will have 200v and about 60+V residual from the caps and you can spike/blow the panel ICs. Just leave it (15min)and check the SC

If still 10 blink, then one of those 2 other wise I'd check out the SC

Next , check resistance across SC2 connector, TP82 - gnd, then check for shorted transistors. I'll give you this one as a common fail, Q661, RJP63F3A.

You can send me PM and or email address if you want docs or guides.

You'll have fun trying to locate one, or cheap.

Always check the SM buffer for shorts before fitting a working SC.

OK, followed all that, SC or A board appears to be a problem, I will reassemble the TV and send it back to it's owner, as good as it would be to fix it I'll be chasing my tail for some time and I have other repairs to do, Thanks for the advice anyhow, Much appreciated......

Sorry TW, I should have been more clear on the result, after following your steps I am still getting the 10 blink with only the power supply and A board connected, also, I suspect my friend is keen to get it fixed in a hurry now so best bet is he takes it to a commercial repair centre so he can get an expedient repair (and unfortunately pay accordingly), alternately, if he leaves it here and is prepared to wait I will continue on it, if that is the case and if it's ok by you I'll get some further information from you.

If they have kids, check the SD slot and see if something metallic eg. coin has been inserted shorting that out. It has happened, and in another forum we have joked about it only to actually have someone check and sure enough a child had stuffed a coin shorting the 3.3v line and 10 blinks.

It's actually the first step in a troubleshooting flowchart!

    SD Card socket:
    Check for metal object,
    damaged or bent pins,
check connector p6 is seated correctly at both P board and A board,
Then suggests disconnecting ss11& sc2, power up and see if it goes 7 blinks

Still blink10 after that test TW, the SD socket is clear and I can't see anything that indicates a physical fault that would upset the A board, I'll recheck everything and see what happens . I have told the bloke what the go is, he may? even write it off, if that is the case I may keep it as a pet project and if fixed I'll donate it to someone , I await his answer.....
And thanks for all the help so far, awesome stuff :-)
