    Default Smoke Doors

We are doing a job which has smoke doors which has maglocks on then.
Problem is what are the rules concerning then in the event of fire. In the event of a fire the smoke doors release from the fire panel but when they shut the maglock grab the doors, i though in the event of a fire in each of the door controllers they should have a relay which drops open releasing the power to the maglocks. The job is Vic any thoughs.

Up in QLD the setup up we use for fire/smoke doors is a relay (either 12vDC 0r 24vDC depends on the fire panel) in the door controller.

We set the relay up in a fail-safe configuration so that when there are no alarms the relay is energised (the feed to the relay is from the fire panel) so if the cable gets cut, disconnected, burnt or there’s an actual fire alarm it drops the power to the relay which than goes open to drop the power to the mag locks. You might also want to think about installing an emergency glass break at the doors

The mag locks hold the doors open and in the event of a fire they release and let the doors close,if they are double doors there is a requirement that a single test switch shall be installed to release both doors (as1670.1 I think).

    Wait.

Maglocks and holdbacks are not the same thing (even though they work similarly).

I am assuming the doors are sometimes closed, so just disabling the maglocks is not an option.
Generally I used to wire in an input to the concept to activate a door lock/unlock list.
The doors all had break glass as a backup release or relay on the power supply as per "2secure".

EDit: I have seen some "consultants" call holdbacks maglocks, if its just a plan lock carefully at their indicated position.

Sorry about the confusion ,but the consultants I work under (Sydney to QLD border) call holdbacks "Magnomatic door release" hence maglocks and your actual padde type door lock as a ES or Electric Strike.

    Oy! I'm a consultant.

You know, from the root words Con and Insult. As in "I am here to consult you".

    I feel so dirty...

I am not 100% sure on requirements but I think that it must be Fail Safe and on a relay off the FIP.
It needs to be a mechanical switching not software driven.
