I bought mine from Amazon, then bought a subscription from Unblock us and just added the dns settings they gave.

Have you tried the free trial at unblock us and see if there dns settings works with your one ?

bit bored today and went into the local pawn shop.

Saw a sony sony bdp-s185 networked blu ray player there, looked brand new in carton for $70.

Bought it, updated firmware and had netflix going within 30 minutes. A bit of ginning around registering device on sony/netflix etc. websites but easy as...

perfect quality here in kalgoorlie, and it's free for a month....

OSD is showing 1.5 mbps on netflix and 5 - 6 mbps on crackle (a free service)....

Just did a test, no problems streaming 2 movies simultaneously. 1 on the pc and one on the sony......

Looks like i am going to have to upgrade plan from 100 to 200gb.....

No i have been using Tunir on my pc and still can, thought if i changed the settings in the wd it should do the same but apparently it don't.
I'm a bit lost with it and not that impressed as the smart tv has the same things.
Also i liked that it could pick up folders on my pc's eg so i can watch movies but i cant even get that to work it picks up the pc and vise versa but it wont let me in i put the network password in but don't know what name to put it.
Tried the pcs name tried the wireless pass no go lol ( i luv Technology ).

Any web site that you know that has like a full guide how to set it up?
I looked all over cant find one apart wd site and it don't tell much.

How are those that bought a Roku finding them???
After living with them for a while, any positives or negatives?
Quick to load? Good RC response? Good picture?
Anyone wish to load some screen shots for others

    Roku 2 XS etc...

I find the Roku as good as the WD. Its good having one of both.

Roku opens up a lot more opportunities as you can add private channels (a google finds a few sites offering the channels and their numbers)

The Roku does NOT have seperate network settings. You need to have Unblock Us DNS in your modem/router settings as there is no option for seperate settings in the menu. The remote is much nicer than the WD, you dont need to point it at the device either meaning you can hide the Roku anywhere you like, it doesnt need to be visible for line of site. The Roku is tiny, only half the size of the WD (which I thought was small)

Mmmm there are quit a lot of devices that require DNS changes to be made at the Router
Not so great for those with Modem/Routers that do not allow that, aka tethering.

For full blown DNS control at the unit seems the Apple TV, Xbox 360 and Boxee are your choices, with some WDTV models supported too (but not all)

Dam shame the Roku will not allow such adjustments.
Some people like to leave 80% of their network standard for lightening browsing and local content... but just change those devices that need the tweak

I love the RC and "adding" of new channels of the Roku tho!!!!
Is the RC WiFi or another protocol?

Sorry what advise are you talking about? been through all the posts found nothing and i know your advise is unblock plus but im happy with free Tunir.

My question was if someone with the wd live stream player i bought here in australia had it working with tunir?

From what i gather no one has replied to it so what proven advice am i missing.

Other question was did i buy the wrong one which cant be changed again no mention on that either so what advice am i missing on that front.
If anyone had got it working please reply if not thank you for reading much appreciated.

How did you waste your money????
You bought a WDTV, you got a WDTV. They are still a good and very handy box in their own right.

If you want tried and proven walk through instructions, an Apple TV for around $100 is cheap as chips.... Plus the guide to change the DNS is on all unblocking websites and video tutes on YouTube.
If you look around, you'll find you can pick up an Apple TV for a lot less too

It is spelt out in black and white that some WDTV live units, especially those sold outside North America, will not work, due to a hardware difference.
So if yours doesn't work, either keep it or sell it on Ebay....
Personally, i still think they are a very handy little box.

You dont get a reply, so you post bump. You were told by Bagman the following :

Obviously you could use that to get your device up and running easily and see what its all about. But you are more interested in getting it working with some elcheapo get what you pay for free service, so you dont listen to a thing that people tell you.

Its not really that hard is it ? Its a classic reason of why a lot of people stop bothering to help people on forums.

Oceanboys reply was to me, in regards to Roku doesnt allow custom network changes. Its nothing to do with WD Live receivers.

If you cant set it up based on the wealth of information and help in this thread, I cant see it happening as you reject commonsense suggestions.

levend, to access the files on your pc you need to put into the wd live the login name and password you use to login to the pc.

If you have a look at the tunir faq, you will see that tunir does not support all devices and services. If it doesn't work with your wd live and the service you want to use ,I suggest you try the unblock us free trial and see if that works for you.

Nothing personal, anyone who makes no attempt to help themselves yet expects everyone else to will get exactly the same response.

I really like the Roku player. The interface is nice and clean, it's all very straightforward. The remote is simple with only a few buttons so no issues doing anything in the dark (although I think the motion controller for games is a bit useless). There's also an app for your phone you can use as the remote.

I was a bit annoyed when I realised it didn't stream video straight from the network drive (it seems weird because it seems to play most stuff if you put it on a usb drive and plug it in the back) but I've got Plex set up now which solved that issue.

The only problem I have with it is there is no volume option. The volumes seem to vary quite a lot between different channels and it would be nice if it had it's own volume control rather than having to get the tv or amp remote out.
