ASD is an independent electronic security systems research and development company based in Melbourne headed by Dean Reilly, managing director.

ASD has reached an exclusive long-term agreement with Interlogix for the joint development of the Challenger product portfolio.

It's nice to see some active product development. I can only hope the software side of things isn't forgotten as panel management software is a shocker. Challenger isn't the only one that could benefit from some software development either.

what do you say to people when you go to a place thats got a DL300 installed there "mate, its 20 years old, time for an upgrade". thats what we should be saying to Tecom customers that just had the system installed

Its a reliable product that is consistant (relativly)
I kind of appreciate the consistancy of it as some products change to quickly for installers to really keep up with - unless your one of the lucky (or unlucky) few that ONLY works with a few products.....

Yes. Especially when some of the installers are still coming to terms with cutting edge technology like "The Internet".

Speaking of N/O contacts and EOLR's. I have come across a hell of a lot of installed smoke alarms without an EOL power supervision relay.

Pffftt.... I have recently seen several smoke detectors not even connected and the customers had been paying the former security company a maintenance fee for many years which apparently had never extended to actually testing anything.

Very interesting. thanks for that. I understood GE has their own security R&D section that recently updated their products to be more like inner ranges. Seems a strange arrangement to have an external R&D group as well.

And we all know how much 'development' went in to the Challenger.

Actually GE (who bought Tecom years ago) recently sold off their whole security division (including the little bump on a stump that is Tecom) to United Technologies who own Otis Elevators, Carrier Airconditioning, Pratt&Whitney Jet Engines, and heaps of other stuff.

Those guys probably aren't at all interested in the Tecom stuff, they were apparently after some of the video stuff that's being sold in the states. I wouldn't expect there's too much money flowing down the Tecom pipe for R&D.

    Time will tell.

UTC weren't after video, they were after the EST3 fire panel.

ASD is run by one of the founders of Tecom. I think it's a fair assumption that money is indeed flowing down the R&D pipe as I doubt he would be merging his engineering team with the team from Interlogix out of the goodness of his heart.

I'm sure the likes IR know this. I wouldn't mind betting it's why they released Integriti before it was ready.
