Default Android Car Audio replacement units.

Anyone here used or own a Pure Android Car Audio head unit?
I made a post about these a few years ago, seems they are more popular now.

Might be a better solution than those which seem to struggle with WindowsCE products. Especially when it comes to getting GPS programs running correctly.

And admin, there is my XMBC right there, in one box, on the fly

Interesting......I havent looked at these sorts of units for quite a long time, I presume they must have been Windows CE based back then.

Wow, it certainly opens the door to all sorts of possibilities having the Google Play Store !!!!

I do too, its brilliant.... I have the OEM GPS solution in the car, but find it faster to use my phone with Google Maps and just toss it into the Instrument Cluster while i drive.

From threads here though, people seem to have a lot of trouble with GPS solutions on the WindowsCE head units.... I had a friend buy one from China, it was a dog of a thing.

Not saying these Android units will be much better, but being on the Android platform, they should be.

I think these car head units need to lift there game though, screen res off 800x480 is horrible in this day and age....
    1920x1280 should be standard.

Otherwise you'd just run a tablet

As it is a fixed device, its a worry that people can use it to read emails and viber, whats app, etc messaging while driving.

Looks good, being Android it would be able use Navigon which is Garmin based, I use that on my mobile in preference to Google Maps, as it's more accurate (in my area) & works excellently even without phone signal.

Wonder if Navigon is a free App on that unit as it is with my S3 mobiles?

Default Android Car Audio replacement units.

I have a dedicated Navigon device and love the contoured graphics but it's getting old and buggy so installed the app on my S3 but it's terribly unstable. I'm fairly sure you'll only get Navigon for free with selected Samsung devices. Btw, Whatsapp and Tapatalk on my radio would be awesome and obviously unsafe.

Try this on for size as on Saturday 15th, Aldi is selling a '7 inch CAR GPS/DVD/CAMERA' system for $299.

aldi.com.au/specialbuys should find the offer and list its specifications.

Love 'em or loathe them, Aldi certainly has some interesting products at amazing prices.

The first one of this type of combo (no GPS) I has ever seen was at a JB HiFi outlet at Garden City Kotara (Newcastle) several years ago and was worth well over $1500 which at the time was twice the value of the VC Commodore with the fabulous 4 cyl Starfire engine I was driving at the time.
I stand unequivicably behind everything I say , I just dont ever remember saying it !!

Android Auto, its here with many manufactures in the line up.

Well, its coming anyway. Like predicted
Such a smart solution for Car Manufacturers to use an Open Source OS...
No more GPS mapping issues with CD's or Updates (unless you want to run your own on there)
    Phone Integration
    Email Integration
Music, Radio, Pandora, you name it....
No doubt with a Reversing Camera and possible "dash cam" integration.

So much integration, you'd have to think the Car Manufacturers would save on licence fees.
And can offer the customer a level of customisation.

Android seems to be the "way of the future", I've had a CE machine that I've hardly used. It is now several years old.

    Open Automotive Alliance

And their webpage.... Seems Google/Android have got them all interested.

Just one of the companies listed

I bet the New Investors are flying in!
With so much media available on our mobile devices, will be hard to know how much will be fixed in to the car and how much will be shared from your device.
It will sure make the "Use of a Mobile while Driving" Law and grey area, when it becomes a fixed part of the vehicle.
No doubt there will be "Speed Related" cut offs as with Dash Mounted TV's now.

Its been such a Market Waiting to happen in my view.....

I love my Android car head unit. Have it for almost a year now.
It has all the options, didn't get to install them yet. Rear camera, Dash camera with recorder, etc.
Audio is surprisingly good using built-in amp.
    I bought mine from
