Touch ID on iPhone 6 remains vulnerable to spoofs despite Apple Pay

In this video, SRLabs demonstrate how you can bypass the fingerprint sensor of iPhone 6



This fact becomes explosive, because this way not only data on the iPhone could be stolen, but also could be used to pay at the expense of the iPhone 6 owner: the new payment method "Apple pay" allows contactless payment at NFC terminals, where authentication only required the fingerprint.

Since I don't use Apple...
But jokes aside, fingerprint scanners can be fooled very easy.
Unless it is a device that comes close to military specs you simply can't expect it to be save.
Take the classic swipe reader, like used on many notebooks: It is an optical scanner, so even a good printout from a valid fingerprint will fool them.
The standard size touch scanner, in most cases, is again nothing more than an optical reader.
Only that resolution and color are made to fit the purpose.
Again a proper print does the trick - or the old style dusting of an existing print and using clear sticky tape...
The better ones check for body temp, so don't use thick plastic to fool those
The really good ones also check for the resistance of the skin, so you have to wet you print a bit.
So far I have not come across a reader that I could not fool into accepting a fake finger.
